Ryster
I have a SP3, dock and dual monitors here at work too. However our standard monitors are HP and do not support daisy chaining. As the dock only has one monitor output, I have to plug the other directly into the side of my SP3 every morning. I have no problems with this unless I disturb one of the cables, in which case it goes into a period of what I call "spasm-ing" while Windows sorts itself out. Sometimes I have to then turn the monitors off and on again one by one to fix the layout. A bit of a pain, but I can live with it until I find a pair of HP 23/24" monitors that support daisy chaining. Any thoughts in that area would be appreciated
sc302 Veteran Posted January 28, 2015 Veteran Share Posted January 28, 2015 usb 3 hdmi or dvi adapter added with the minidisplay port will give you your two monitor output. http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/0B47072/460/D9D7E3B5E92F40DD9D2CF85459B8AFCB or pick your favorite brand http://www.newegg.com/USB-Display-Adapters/SubCategory/ID-3046?Tid=19447 This would be the best way to currently add dual monitor in your case support. There is also this (if your monitors support this) http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-MSTMDP123DP-DisplayPort-Triple-Monitor/dp/B00JLRBC7S
jamesgb
I have a SP3 with dock and chaining via two Dell U2414H monitors and have also had some issues with waking up from sleep. I've had most luck with shutting down the SP3 and booting it back up each morning. Or at least undocking at the end of the day, then re-docking and pressing the power button - that seems to bring it back to life with reliability. For a couple of other users at my office that have monitors that don't support chaining, I purchased these: http://www.startech.com/AV/Displayport-Converters/Mini-DisplayPort-Triple-Head-DisplayPort-Multi-Monitor-MST-Hub~MSTMDP123DP And then purchased DP to DVI adapters to get dual monitors out of the single Mini-DP connector out of the back of the docking station. I haven't received any complaints, but I don't know if they are putting their SP3s into sleep mode and trying to wake them up, or just shutting down at the end of the day. -James The_Observer 1 Share

Dont know if its the docking stations, the monitors or just Daisy Chain itself. A bit of a let down really.
jamesgb
What model of Dell monitors do you have?? Is it the same as mine? Unfortunately I think it might be the monitors - while I think they look great and I love the think edge, they have been finicky... Sometimes they won't come on and the fix is to pull the power plug out of them and then power them back up and they work fine. And when they are displaying an image on the screen the monitor buttons don't work - I can't even turn them off.... To get around the sleep issue I would just turn off the monitors at the end of the day, but then it would display the lock screen all night long... -James
