BaZurk
Hey all. Just purchased two Dell 23inch S2340M monitors (DVI)to go with my Hanns G HH201(HDMI). I have a GTX 680 card which has one HDMI and two DVI.. Great right? sure but I have a new pc build and a separate mac mini (2012) HDMI and Mini Display port). My question is how do I get my mac mini and pc build to utilize all three monitors? what sorta setup eg. switches/connections would be the best to use. philcruicks
The Mac Mini can't use all 3 because its only got 2 display outputs. But to use 2 the cleanest and simplest way is to get VGA converters as all 3 of your displays have VGA ports as well (so you can use and 2 of your choice and hit input select). http://www.amazon.co.uk/Patuoxun-Thunderbolt-Displayport-Display-Adapter-To-VGA/dp/B00D3IP0S8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422804503&sr=8-1&keywords=thunderbolt+to+vga http://www.amazon.co.uk/Patuoxun%C2%AE-Adapter-Power-Free-Raspberry-support/dp/B00F6RZZMU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422804227&sr=8-1&keywords=hdmi+to+vga
BaZurk
wouldnt i be using a lower picture quality connection with vga?
Aergan
wouldnt i be using a lower picture quality connection with vga? Unfortunately, yes. You could have a look at the DVI / Displayport based USB 3.0 docking stations but they're quite expensive (and don't have great reliability for all devices / setups). philcruicks
VGA is not that much worse, a lot of people assume it looks terribe when compared with DVI/HDMI/DP, but unless your pushing massive resolutions, have a lot of interference, or have a microscope for an eye you're probably not going to be able to tell much if any difference. For the few quid cost of the adapters I'd give it a shot, assuming you have some VGA cables lying around, which most people tend to. if not they're not more than a few quid either.
