What are pre-made ethernet cables terminated as?

Recommended Posts

I think I may have ask this before but I cannot find the thread.  Pre-made ethernet cables (i.e. cables that are made and terminated at the factory)...are they terminated as 'a' or 'b'?

I ask because because it seems my new house the people ran pre-terminated cat5e cables through out the house but the wall outlets for them they cut the connectors and re-did them.

For whatever reason one room is not hooked up and I need put a cat5e wall jack on it.  But since the other end of the cable is already terminated I need to know in which configuration.

If looking at the cable pins up facing away from you Orange on left is b. Green is a. Most cables are terminated b.

As far as in house terminated cabling goes it is irrelevant to what the patch cables are terminated as. The cabling in the house has to be the same on both ends. To be able to plug in any straight through patch cable (a or b our some other non standard straight through patch cable).

Thanks.  Had I bothered to look at one of the other wall outlets I actually would see that they are terminated b.  This should go rather quickly now.
