Logitech G710+ = Awesome

Recommended Posts

I've never had a mechanical keyboard before and after testing it out at Best Buy I wasn't that impressed. However, I figured I would at least give it a shot and if I didn't like it return it in a couple days. Well, I must say, after putting a days worth of use into this keyboard I am finding that I love it! At work I use a basic Dell keyboard which has very short travel distance which I like a lot as it's very easy to type on and feels good.

Having said that, the travel on this keyboard took some getting used to, but now that I'm somewhat more accustomed to it I must say that it's a joy to type on. The keys snap back quickly and I'm finding that I can type just as fast, if not faster at this point.

I replaced a Logitech G19, which was more expensive than this one and which I really didn't like that much. The things I did like are included on the 710, like the volume scroll wheel and media keys. What I disliked most about that keyboard was really the typing experience. The keys began to stick after a while or just became hard to press if you didn't catch them in the center of the key. The mechanical keys on this keyboard feel great and I don't think I'm going to have any issues with the keys this time around.

Anyone else have some more long term experience with mechanical keyboards that can comment on how the keys hold up over time? Any overall impressions of the G710+? Thanks!

the g710+ have noise damper rings underneath the buttons which prevents you from bottoming out when you press the keys hard. Also mechanical keyboards have better durability than a standard dell keyboard.

I've had this keyboard for a month and a half. It sucks stock - be sure to take out the o-rings to get the full experience of the MX Brown keys. If you pull on the keys, they should easily pop off, and you can remove the o-ring, which dampens the noise, and overall typing experience.

No it doesn't, that's just your opinion. :ermm:

I have two of them for myself and my girlfriend. I tried getting her something different, and she was unhappy with some of the other options on the market. I wish I could have found something optimal, but without ordering online, it's kind of hard to play the shipping game when you just want a keyboard.

Well before you go off saying it's my opinion, have you even tried removing the o-rings? Just try for yourself. If you don't like the typing experience, just put the o-rings back on. It's a simple mod, and best of all, free.

G710+ owner here and here are my impressions:

The stems on the key caps are brittle. I am typing on one right now and I regret buying it. I had to take one of the windows keys and swap it with the D key because the D key's stem (the part which connects to the switch) has disintegrated. Logitech can't send me a replacement keycap, they want me to send back the whole effing KB..

The keyboard itself doesn't suck, but boy did Logitech drop the ball when it came to QC on  the keycaps. Do a quick google search and you'll see I am hardly the only one who isn't thrilled with their G710+

I think a mechanical keyboard is worth the cash, especially if you do a lot of typing or a hardcore gamer, but don't ###### your money away on a KB whose manufacturer didn't put in the effort to produce decent keycaps.

Here is an image to prove I do indeed own one, I highlighted the key switch:

I've had my Corsair K90 for a long time and the keys still feel like the keyboard is new. I bought it because of a great review here on Neowin.

Yep. I know stories of people who would have mice issues and Logitech would send them new ones and tell them not to bother returning the defective one.

I explained to the person I spoke to how impractical and time wasting it was to send an entire keyboard back, which weighs about a lot, just for a a cracked keycap but they wouldn't listen. I paid about $140 for this KB. I hope Logitech liked that money because it is the last effing cent they'll ever get out of me & I'll do whatever I can to turn everyone I can off of their products.

Logitech = Acer-like quality with Apple-like support. I had to stop using my previous MK700 keyboard because the keys became increasingly harder to press due to the plastic inside wearing down and creating attrition and the marathon mouse was even worse, not to mention my G35 supercheap plastic hinges that kept breaking within a year. This time I bought the MK710+ and the G500s (but I avoided Logitech headphones like the plague, bought some similarly-priced Sennheisers instead that have already lasted 3x the time of my last G35s). The keyboard is already known to have all those keycap issues and the mouse not only had an extremely annoying firmware bug causing lag in several games (that miraculously they managed to fix) but apparently like many other Logitech mices it has those supercheap switches that end up bending causing the double-click/early release bugs. They really have no shame, buying Logitech hardware is just living in the constant fear or having to beg them to send you replacements. If only reviewers were honest and lowered the scores for products that don't last at all maybe they'd finally bother doing some real quality control.

Yep, I'm one of those people who called about my G500s.  The pinky area coating wore off after 6 months, and I called, and they gave me a G502, but didn't have to send my G500s back.

I would call again and maybe you can reach a different tech person.

Also, aren't those keycaps on the 710 generic for the cherry keys?  Can't you just buy they caps from somewhere else?  Just buy a new set of WASD, I hate those gray keys. I also game with ESDF, so the grays are annoying to me :p

I probably should call back & hope for someone who isn't a complete dodo.

I have had a quick look at replacement keys, but dammit, it's the principal of the matter! I shelled out a lot of cash on a premium KB, I shouldn't have to buy after market parts for the damn thing.

Totally agree with you, but if you ever wanted to do a cool mod, that site Vvo linked has some very cool keycaps.

  • 2 weeks later...

I bought some replacement zinc alloy wasd keys. They have a very distinct feel and click. Rather satisfying.

Nice!  Where did you get those from for reference?  Just trying to make sure that I get compatible ones.
