+John Teacake MVC Posted February 9, 2015 MVC Share Posted February 9, 2015 Hi All, For all you Sys Admins out there I am curious as to what you think the maximum latency would be for Windows File Shares. For local LAN this isn't an issue 1ms ping times for example. What would it be like if you had 20ms ping times, Stable connection, Enough bandwidth..... I know its quite a simple question but its actually not something I have come across.
smooth_criminal1990
Depends, I can browse shares at work over a 350-400ms 10Mbps WAN link. Loading folders can take a couple of seconds, and file copying is inevitably quite slow, but it works. Also we have one share that's over a ~35ms link, and that's pretty comfortable. sc302 Veteran Posted February 9, 2015 Veteran Share Posted February 9, 2015 Latency is one thing, drops is something else
+John Teacake MVC Posted February 9, 2015 Author MVC Share Posted February 9, 2015 Oh yeah obviously I understand that drops would affect it , I am actually on about a very stable fast connection but due to the geographical implications increased latency other than a LAN.
