Set Graphics card to output VGA

Recommended Posts

OK, so I've put a GT610 in this ageing XP computer, I could see windows loading but as soon as I got to windows I just got a black screen, anyway I tried again with the HDMI and now it works, the screen doesn't fit right, but it works. Anyway I don't know why this is difficult to find, it shouldn't need to be but I can't even find out how on Google or the help files in Nvidia contol pannel don't seem to show it either. Please could someone tell me how I set this thing to output to the VGA port, before I just smash the thing up.

Please wait at least 24 hours before bumping.

What is the display that you're trying to output to?

Is anything displayed through the VGA interface if you boot into Safe Mode?

It outputs to VGA just fine until windows starts then I just get a black screen, so I would have thought it was just some simple windows setting.

Sorry I bumped twice, I didn't mean to do that. I just can't imagine a simpler task and the fact Google's no help is infuriating. Honestly Look.

Is it plugged to a secondary TV screen? If yes then windows probably output to the secondary TV screen once past the bios and loading.

Yeah sadly windows sometimes is that stupid. I don't know why but windows almost always recognize the TV as the PC monitor and the monitor as the secondary screen and by default output to the TV.

If you have a TV plugged at the same time just unplug it. Boot windows. Once in windows plug your TV back and set the monitor as the default display.

Exactly, every gfx card has a primary port - so the bios will always show on the primary port, and then windows will switch over to the primary port you setup once you login. Although on more recent gfx cards it defaults to whatever screen is currently on but that is neither here nor there

Also, sometimes what I have seen happen(today in work) the display driver glitched and created a virtual screen....So when the person opened a program it seemed to not open but in reality it was going to that non existent virtual screen so they had to rollback the drivers.

Anyway, you could try on HDMI as you get an image and see if any other screens show.
