So as of today (14 February 2014), at the ripe old age of 27, my wife and I own the house we are living in.  No more rent payments, no mortgage, no loan, we own it free and clear and have title in hand.

:D

I've had a land contract house from my mom since 2009 :) Congrats

Thanks, :-)  We've rented the place for a couple years now, but just bought it outright today.  It feels nice to be able to officially say that it's "mine", no strings attached.

You're welcome :) and cool. I hate landlords I had one that was nuts and not right in the head would come knocking on our door at freakin 5 am bitchin about sticks in the yard and stuff when that's supposed to be his problem.. he'd also randomly come over and bitch about the government and consipicy theories and crap and not leave for hours and he would talk to himself on the porch. Ugh -_-

so we left that place, mom hooked us up with this house and we make payments to her.... much better than that mess lol

Congratulations bud, now all repairs, maintenance, and headaches come out of your pockets, and the best part, the devaluation over time means it'll be worth less than you bought it for in 20 years' time :p

Nice one, to own your house out right before 30 is quite an achievement.

It depends on the house ....

Gerowen - Congrats.

When my fiance and I decided to get a house instead of doing the apartment/townhouse thing - it was a blessing.  Now when I throw things and scream that I am always right, and to argue with me is fruitless - I dont have to worry about my nosy neighbors heard and are worried that I am going to shoot them at the slightest moment.... not to mention when I come home late and kick my dog and BBQ all the neighbor's cats -- nobody knows.  ;)

It's a 14x70 mobile home, and the cost included the house, the porches, and a shed out back that's about 10x10x10 feet.  The repairs aren't a huge obstacle for me, I've been working on things since I was big enough to reach the handlebar and push a lawn mower.  I've built porches, chicken houses, and re-floored and re-roofed mom and dad's house after our first house burned down.  I'm not particularly worried about the resale value, this is our home, the only house we own, and I've got a wife and two kids to take care of.  Going to probably wall in the back porch and turn it into a man cave and build an extra bedroom off the living room for my little girl come this summer.  That AND replace the underpinning because it's that vinyl crap that bleaches out and starts chipping every time you touch it.

It's a good feeling isn't it.  I owned my first place at 20, and other than a brief (deliberate) rented period for 3 months while I awaited somewhere to be completed, I'd never go into rented.

Man I envy you. I would love to be able to own this house ive been renting for the past ten years, and the owner even asked me if I wanted to buy it, but due to my medical condition, there is no way in the world a bank would give me a loan for even 5$ much less 20k. Good luck man, I am glad for you.

I'm seriously considering buying a house too, seems like all the landlords here in CT are total scumbags, last one had the same pipe in the bathroom "repaired" at least twice a year, by a drug addled generally drink and clueless "property manager"

Current one says out of the way, to the point of NEVER fixing anything, even after telling him 3 times it needed fixed, roof is leaking again, just like last winter, I'd do the repairs myself, but money is tight at the moment and don't look forward to the argument and hissy fit he'll throw when I deduct the repairs form the rent

I'm done with it, if I get a decent enough pay increase or promotion this week I'll be talking to a highly recommended agent in the area

Congrats Gerowen!

Bet it feels nice not having that bill to pay every month, set money aside to do the big repairs/replace when something dies

The best part is the fact you have no mortgage, that really is a brilliant feeling, congratulations! :)
