Hyper-V RemoteFX Issues - please help! :)

Recommended Posts

So I am following this article on how to setup and configure RemoteFX with Hyper-V.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/16652.remotefx-vgpu-setup-and-configuration-guide-for-windows-server-2012.aspx

I got to the end of the article and one of the last steps is once you have used RDP to connect to the VM client the display adapter should be "Microsoft RemoteFX Graphics Device

So I think I found the problem... just no fix for it yet. I found that when no RemoteFX video adapter is added to the VM Client, Device Manager looks good... everything is installed. When I add the RemoteFX Video adapter hardware to the VM Client, there are two unknown device items listed. I can't seem to figure out how to get them installed properly.

I do have Hyper-V Integrated Services installed including Guest Services.

RemoteFX vGPU can only be leveraged with Windows 8 and Windows 7 with SP1 Enterprise clients. Virtual machines with Windows Server 2012 acting as Remote Desktop Session Host (session virtualization) cannot use RemoteFX vGPU. An overview of all supported features for the various operating system platforms is provided in the blog article: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/11/26/remotefx-features-for-windows-8-and-windows-server-2012.aspx 10_5F00_external.png

You need to have a Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.X Enterprise as the VM, it can't use a Server OS as the VM (or as a RDS Session Host) for RemoteFX to work I'm afraid as it requires a Client OS as the VM.

The Server OS (as a VM) lacks the required frameworks and integrated service tools for it to work and can't be "patched" to perform as such (at least to my knowledge).

This is exactly what I am finding for Server 2012 R2 period. What really confused me, though, is that I have seen several youtube videos using Server 2012 (not R2) for this and it worked. Did they simply remove R2 being able to do this? Very odd!  =(

USB redirection works (which is apart of RemoteFX) but RemoteFX vGPU cannot I'm afraid.

It's an encompassing product name.
