This seems like a great product that needs to be made. tsupersonic Posted February 20, 2015 Share Posted February 20, 2015 Seems interesting, but I just use traction mats like these. I've dug my CLS 63 out of the snow with something like that. Or, you could just get proper winter tires, drive properly and not get stuck. This is my first season with winter tires (Blizzak WS-80), and I'm now a big advocate. I have plowed my car out of my garage when there was 12"+ of snow without any hesitation. My apartment complex isn't plowed till 10am, and it's all back roads to work. Mats are good if you can get them under the tire. These are good if you are sunk in the mud...zip tie them on and you have traction. Sucks if you hub caps with steel wheels. tsupersonic Posted February 20, 2015 Share Posted February 20, 2015 Yes, winter tires are more expensive, but putting these on requires you to get out of your car each time your stuck. On a day like today in upstate NY, it's 0F with windchill down to 30 below...no thanks. It's projected to go down to -10F tonight. Of course there is always the chance you will get stuck even with winter tires, but the probability of that happening is less compared to if you had A/S tires, and especially if you had summer tires. The metal impacting the ice should create some real traction. Could be good for getting traction when your wheels are just spinning out though... I'll peek at it when it is released. Krome Posted February 20, 2015 Share Posted February 20, 2015 The mats looks like a failed idea. It'll just slid through when the wheel/tire spins. I've do similar things when a car is stuck in the snow. And the worst I learn from it is that anyone is behind the car when the wheel spins fast, it will kick that mat or whatever you put under the wheel/tire and it will sling that object so fast it will hurt or injure or even kill you. The tie-wrap is an excellent idea. It's disposable. But instead of a tie-wrap, you should make it more metallic instead of plastic. I think that would sell better.
