Those who SLI/CFX, did/would you get another SLI/CFX setup?

Recommended Posts

I had a 7870 XT when they came out because it was fantastic value at the time (as the GTX 970 is currently).

A year later, I bought a second 7870 XT and CrossFireX'd them.

However, in the two years that I've had that setup, I was fed up of games only supporting one card, or issues such as flickering textures in some games that supported CFX etc.

So now I'm going back to a single-card setup (I'm enjoying my GTX 970) and I think I'll keep it this way.

So my question is:

Those who have had SLI/CFX setups in the past (or those that do at the moment) - did/would you do it a second time?

Last time I did SLI in my system, it involved two Voodoo 2 12MB 3dfx cards and an ATi Mach 64 8MB. No issues with Carmageddon 2 & Unreal Tournament though ;)

in my opinion, if youre going to do it then just buy 2 cards from the get-go. i dont see the reason to wait and buy another down the road since the rate of releases is relatively fast.

i have an SLI setup, but i hardly game on my desktop anymore. i find myself migrating towards consoles only these days. i just dont have the time.

I originally bought 2 GTX 760s for my build. It was faster and less expensive than a GTX Titan, at the time. It worked perfectly. I would still recommend it if it made economic sense as it did in my case, but that depends a lot of factors.

Buying a second card to put in SLI rarely makes sense in my opinion. By the time a single card isn't powerful enough, better single GPUs will be out and you'd be better off selling your current card and buying something current-gen.
