Pebble, Microsoft and what could have been with Windows Phone

The article contains interesting insider information and it is just sad how everything fell apart due to whims of Pebble's CEO.

To my mind, this all sounds like a brilliant plan. Pebble gets a resilient partner; Microsoft works with a spritely, "disruptive" tech company. Long term, Microsoft would even be in an ideal position to acquire Pebble, should the private company want to go down that path.

There is just one problem: Pebble founder and CEO Eric Migicovsky.

Despite Microsoft's attempts to win over Pebble, Migicovsky is reportedly not a fan of the company nor their mobile operating system. The young entrepreneur reportedly nixed any partnership.

Growing up in a world where Google and Apple have dominated the mobile scene, this perception that Microsoft is old and out of touch is seemingly more frequent these days. Particularly with those under 30 (see Snapchat's Evan Spiegel for a similar attitude). Even Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was unable to persuade him personally.

The way I look at it is this, if Pebble CBA to support the mobile platform that I choose to use then I CBA to support Pebble by buying their products.

"Keep in mind, the plan I am told was for Microsoft to develop the app, including eating all costs associated within, and even to help Pebble keep Windows Phone app parity long-term with continued support. In exchange, Pebble owns the app. These kinds of deals are very familiar with Microsoft as the company knows it has to be aggressive when winning over clients."

Pebble had to do absolutely NOTHING... Reap all the rewards and the CEO still said no.... smh...

I guess the young'n really doesn't care for you to much Microsoft

Not fitbit, Pebble.

Welp, I won't be buying anything Pebble makes.  I doubt they're long for this world anyway.

This. If I am statistically an irrelevant potential customer to them, they are existentially irrelevant entity to me.

People only "KickStart" you for so long, What happens when the well dries up...

They better pray that iWatch turns out to be a flop... Or they can kiss the Apple Market goodbye completely...

Microsoft has enough $$$ to create their own device (Better than their existing Band), and put their foot in the door in the Windows Space and Android Space...

I'm a Microsoft fan (Especially this vibrant Microsoft)... I hope they create a "Surface" type watch...

And while this is off topic... BRING BACK THE COURIER!!!!!  :(  :/

Its the sad truth, but no matter what Microsoft does their past perception is not going away. Honestly, at this point, I'm not sure that is going to change amongst the current generation that are growing up in an Apple/Google world even if Microsoft does in fact come out with an amazing phone/os or laptop like the surface. I just wonder what it will take to change this trend, because Microsoft really wants to be a player again and it would be sad that them not succeeding again only hinders on their past and nothing more
