Fable Legends may be free to play...

Recommended Posts

Very rarely is free to play ever done right :/

Outside of Valve, F2P is never done right...

They say that Microsoft is stealing some ideas from Valve...  It says there's no P2W (Pay 2 Win).. And any $$$ given up is strictly cosmetic, or you like the character class selected (Free characters will be rotated like Killer Instinct)...

My expectations for this were never high to begin with considering I haven't like Fable since Fable II...

At least it being free allows me to fire the game up and give it a try...  If any good, I'll throw down $3-$5 to keep my rolled out character...

Guessing it will be Free to play! (until you reach a low level cap, want to purchase past your initial equipping  or want to play more than 3hrs a day)

All the details are posted above, you can play the game totally free, you have no restrictions other than characters will rotate out and if you don't like that you pay to unlock the character and keep it all the time. And you can use in game money, don't even have to use real money to do this.

Of course, those who can't wait to collect enough game money will just use their own, regardless, nothing I see has said you pay to win or are forced to pay. No restrictions either, just a cycling character schedule to put up with.

This was the only other game other than Forza that interested me on the X1 platform, but after hearing this, I'm just about done with it.

why? the game has 't changed, it's just free...

That sounds like a line that would come from Zynga or King, "it's just free".

I've never got some peoples attitudes towards some of these things, don't get me wrong, pay to win is not a good idea. Pay to get somewhere quicker just isn't a problem in my world.

If people want to pay to get access to content quicker that's fine, I don't mind putting in the time and effort to get somewhere if the game is good enough.

A game that gives me a goal but makes me play the game to get their really doesn't sound that bad :p

I don't really understand what free to play means and why people complain? (I don't usually play multiplayer only games unless it is like a MMO or something)

If it really doesn't cost anything, is that a problem?

Or do you HAVE to buy stuff to play? In that case I don't see how you can call it free to play.

Also, if you spend what you would spend on a normal game (like $50-60) on a game like this, assuming you have to buy things, would that be enough to enjoy it?

I wonder how many people actually read the article, because it clearly describes the F2P mechanics. There is not a hint of pay-walls, pay-to-win, or King-like money grabbing. I don't know what everyone is complaining about.

The character rotations/unlocking sounds exactly like what Riot does with League of Legends. Do all you have the same problem with that game? Because it works pretty darn well.

Legends still seems like it could be good game. The only thing potentially holding it back is the content. As long as we're not grinding the same enemies in the same areas for the same soulless quests over and over again (like Destiny) then it'll be fine.

There's still trust issues around F2P and this isn't a new IP, it's a game people are used to paying $60 for and getting the whole package.

Do you think if the next mainline Elder Scrolls went F2P there wouldn't be widespread worry? (another RPG)

The community for this game will not be on the size or scale of LoL either, so there will be a smaller audience to make back the development costs and a profit from.

Yeah, I can understand that. But they're being pretty transparent about everything, so I don't feel as worried as others. If they were being super secretive and only mentioned "F2P" but didn't explain anything else, then I'd be right there with everyone expressing my disappointment too.

ESO is part of mainline Elder Scrolls. Of course your assumptions is that the next mainline ES game is a standard single player RPG, which in your interpretation it would be whenever it comes.

Being part of an existing IP doesn't mean the game is the same as the older or mainline games anyway, this isn't. This game is more like, L4D/Evolve/DoTA

basically it's L4D/Evolve with selectable heroes and mostly MP focused,so F2P makes a lot more sense and is a good way to snag all those L4D players who are now looking at evolve as their only new option.

So are most developers when F2P is mentioned, but things don't always pan out as simple as PR makes it sound. Time is money in a F2P title, grind or quest for hours versus paying for currency. For me it's a potential slope making an RPG F2P. We've been used to titles like this being based around morals and how you play - Be evil, potentially earn more gold, be good, maybe more experience. When F2P is factored in the balance of what was once the evil/good choices in a game may be tampered with - It's always a thought of don't make it too easy to earn currency, or no one will pay anything. You don't need to think about that when you charge $60 for your game, let people play and exploit the game for fun however they wish.

A quick example, google tips to make gold in Dragon Age Inquisition. There's loads, some would say a few of them verge on exploits or pushing the game in ways the devs didn't intend. Do the devs care though? Probably not, you can dupe items and EA haven't bothered to patch it as of yet. Why not? Low priority as it's just letting people play as they want. Do you want to be massively overpowered/leveled and be raining in gold in the first few hours? On you go, it's your playthrough. That would be patched asap in a F2P title. If you can earn currency too easily, then no one is going to bother paying real money.

So even if devs say you can do everything without spending a penny, you can bet on the other side of that coin the game is going to be carefully balanced/patched/fixed/setup to strongly encourage the spending of a few $ here or there. It almost has to be or how else will development costs be paid for?

Probably because I prefer not to be harassed by the nickle-diming scheme usually associated with F2P games. Just give me the full game with a price.  Also, fable to me, has always been a single-player game and I like it that way.

Then your comment makes no sense, as if you read the OP there is no nickle or diming.

and Legends has never been a single player game, it has been a L4D in the fable universe with a sprinkling of MOBA on it since the start. so b that you would never have been interested in it...
