If S6 fails then Flagship is dead for Android

Recommended Posts

I don't see flagship in general dead. We have the Apple iPhone with most people buys the high end. You saw what happen when they made the C model. It didn't go anywhere. Google Android 5.0 is not really a good OS in general. There are a lot of issues only 1% of the users are using the latest version most are on 4.4 and we still have 2.3 users at double digits percentage in market shares. S6 is not much different better cpu/gpu, better screen and better material to make it. No removable battery, no micro SD and no waterproof. Android is Samsung Galaxy S. It's the brand that made Android popular. People on the Android user side don't spend $600 a year on phones like Apple users.

Microsoft on the other hand try to sell lower end phone when there users want a flagship plus the Windows 10 will be the new XP with computers and I think with Phones.

That's why if S6 fails then Android flagship phones will fail in general.

I love this forum but the amount of dribble I've read on here from people thinking they're experts has increased dramatically the last few years

Drivel

Dribbling idiots spouting drivel tbh..

Also, OPs assertion is baseless.

No, dribble because my dribble has more substance than some of the ###### I've read here recently

It really doesn't.

EDIT:: Your post has the OP flag beside it for some reason O.o Thought you were the OP.

Ummm, 5.0 is now running on 3.3 percent of devices.  Not sure how much breaks down to .01 and .02 though.  But lots have not experienced any issues with 5.0.

And world wide market share of the 2.3 OS versions is at 6.9 percent.  But those are most likely the cheap crap devices or devices people never upgraded.

And since when does flagship mean the phone has to cost a lot?

I have to disagree with you on this.  Android as a whole will go nowhere, it will be the majority Mobile OS for the foreseeable future and if one manufacturer experiences a drop in market share, it will allow others to step up.  Samsung lost 10% market share in the last quarter, which is huge, but it allowed some smaller android manufacturers to experience growth.  Markets will decide, that's for sure.

In my opinion, I think Samsung should have kept the removable battery and SD card support as those were huge selling points for it.  They didn't have to sacrifice those two to make their phones metal and glass.  I know that previous Galaxy phones were built from plastic but I don't think that made them ugly.

Yep, I sure as hell wouldn't purchase one even when there's an expensive 128GB variant available. microSD cards are much, much cheaper.

Ya it's sad. One reason I loved the galaxy phones is because of the removable battery, Micro SD card slot and physical buttons. Seeing how popular their phones have been, for some it was probably for those reasons, and now....

For a phone that didn't go anywhere the iPhone 5c still managed to outsell many flagship Android phones.

I believe it was even posted here on Neowin.

Years ago, I would agree with you on the battery part.  I have had a few androids since and never had an issue with the battery.  I even have 4+ year old phones, with removable batteries, that I never had a problem with.

replacing crappy mAh batteries with higher mAh batteries... also when the device hard locks up it's easier to pull the battery.

when the device hard locksup its much easier to press and hold Volume Up + Power to do a reset.

works with all Android devices. Combination might be different for different devices

At this point I'd be content with buying a S5 and installing a custom ROM on it and call it a day for a year or two.

Me too! The S5 is still a beast!

samsung and android are 2 different things.

The s series phone is not the only high end phone from samsung.  The note is doing well last I heard.  Not as good as the iphone, but still pretty good.

I see the point of the OP. Flagships no longer offer what they used to offer. There is very little difference between a flagship and the same companies midrange device. While the flagship may never die (since its just simply the carriers "best" device) it will not hold any ground like it used to. The point of diminishing returns caught up to phones years ago and any increase in the future will be even smaller yet.

Wow, I'm honestly a little surprised that the Note has sold so well.  Not everyone wants a phablet but maybe I'm wrong if it was obviously outselling the S5 over the holidays.  Yes, I know the Note 4 was newer but still.

A lot of devices, you just hold down the power button and they reboot/restart from a hard lock. Tablets have been doing that for years.  Higher capacity batteries, sure, but battery defects, in my experience, are not to comment these days and hard locks dont need a battery pull.

I was a big advocate for removable batteries years ago but now they are bigger and can power my needs most of the time for a full day.  And with all Androids using the same charge cord, there isnt anywhere I go where I dont have access to a cable to charge it if needed.
