PC won't boot / no power to I/O core

Recommended Posts

A PC i manage randomly stopped booting, when powering up, the display remains black as if it hasn't picked up the signal, it does acknowledge that it is plugged in though.. there is no power to USB peripherals (mouse/keyboard).. the CPU and SYS fans spin and you can also hear the HDD and optical spin up.

I have disconnected everything (RAM, optical, hdd, peripherals, etc..) with only the CPU and PSU connected to the motherboard... still nothing.

I have also disconnected the CMOS and the power button trick by removing power and pushing power button a few times to release remaining current.

I'm not looking to spend forever on this if it's broken I can replace it, I just wondered if there is a nothing else i can quick try? Is the motherboard dying or could it be something else?

PSU, get a new one. There obviously was not enough power to turn your GFX on.

Get a new psu. Try that before you replace the mobo. It's cheaper. ;)

I think your PSU doesn't provide the power that you need .

Try to get another one [ with more Watts ] from a mate , just to assure yourself the motherboard has nothing to do with that problem .

Can you tell us anything about the computer? Age, parts etc? Also, have you looked inside? (Unpower the computer before doing that.)

I'd give the mobo a quick examination. Look for capacitors that have popped (the top will be domed up, and maybe the sides too). Also check the resistors to see if any of them are black and look like they've blown.

Sorry for delay just got round to having another look... I replaced the PSU and now it's just one long continuous beep.

Check for anything that may not be well connected .
