Super SSD tech: Fancy a bonkers 8TB all-flash PC?

Fancy an 8TB SSD? Put one in a PC or notebook and you've got yourself a smoking hot system, fast and with a gaping capacity for data.

 

Zsolt Kerekes of StorageSearch flagged up Novachips and its coming 8TB 2.5-inch SSD.

 

This story is being written on an iMac with a 1TB Fusion drive (combined SSD and HDD) which is pretty near full. The prospect of having an 8TB all-flash PC fills me with

8TB, crazy, As much as I'd love something like this, I'd be worried about the drive failing after the warranty ran out

(as of right now, the only use I could possibly have for such a large drive, would be for backups though)

Dam I want these drives but as Aheer.R.S pointed out, when the warrantees ran out your data might go too lol... Would be nice to add this 8TB to my 1TB bootup SSD drive...

Hello,

 

According to the PDF file, the drive will be available in 2.0TB and 4.0TB capacities in 9.5mm high form factor, and 4.0TB and 8.0TB form factors in 15mm high form factor.  Also note that it uses a PCIe 2.0 x4 interface.  It will be nice to see these make it out of the data center into the consumer space, but I suspect it will be a while before that happens..

No price stated, "if you have to ask..." rule in effect?

where are current prices, like 50c / GB? if that's true then that 8TB would be $4000

 

at 35c / GB, it'd be $2800
