~4" Windows 8.1 Phone ?

Recommended Posts

I smashes my Lumia 930 today, dropped it, and decided its uneconomical to repair.

I got my old iphone 5s out of the drawer to use temporary, and i much prefer it in my hand, its a much better form factor, such a shame iOS has gotten so bad since 8 came out (i used to love 7).

Im well into the Windows 8.1 platform, it reminds me of how stable and snappy iphones used to be!

So my question is, for my new phone, is there anything which is a good spec Windows 8.1 phone which is similar shape and size to an iPhone 5 ?  QI would be a bonus too, as I made good use of this on my 930 and have QI pads everywhere i need them.

I looked at the HTC 8s, its close the the size (a bit wide) but has no QI, no NFC, slow cpu, its a dated phone.

I looked at the 8x and it might be getting a bit too much towards big for me. and im confused as to weather they have QI or not, keep reading conflicting things. Its also a dated phone

are all modern windows phones 4.7"+ ?  I have a HP stream 7 i carry for when i need a big screen, i just need a small smartphone.

Thanks

The Lumia 820 is spec wise, about on par with the 920. It can take a wireless charging back plate, and should be pretty cheap since it's so old. It's a 4.3" screen.

The 620 is a 3.8" screen, and is wonderfully small. Unfortunately, it's also becoming limited by its 512mb of RAM.

These days pretty much all high-end phones are bigger than 4.7". If you want a new model, with a good CPU, wireless charging, etc. you'd have to go big.

Also, don't compare the screen sizes. Compare the phones' external dimensions. A big screen doesn't always mean a bigger phone.

Maybe you could go with a 735:

It has a 4.7" display, vs. 920's 4.5"; it's 4.4 mm taller but 2.3 mm narrower and 1.8 mm thinner, and lighter at 134 g vs. 185 g.

One downside is the lack of the glance screen feature.

its a 930 I had not a 920, very similar, just better .

I just don't think the few mm size is going to make all that much difference in my hand and the phone looks like it is way too tall for its screen, lots of wasted space ont eh front compared to the 930

the spec drop to save 1-2mm in each dimension just isn't worth it.  I want something 930 spec or i would take a hit to 735 spec, but if it was considerably smaller, and still 4G

Seems they don't make exactly what I am after, so I'm going to order another 930 and just live with the size of it.

I have a 930 and also an 830.  Even if the screen is a similar size I really like the feel of the 830 in my hand better than the 930.  Some say the inferior specs hamper it but I haven't noticed that personally.

You might consider a Lumia 820. A little bigger than 4" but you can replace the back cover with one that supports qi charging.

I'm actually curious as to where to find one  of those. I don't even know if my 820 has one of those, I don't know what it's supposed to look like. I think wireless charging would be pretty sweet.

I have a Lumia 928. I had to use a Lumia 520 for several months because I couldn't afford to fix or replace it when I shattered the 928s screen. I did eventually fix it myself, when the price for a replacement screen lowered from $200 to $100 on Ebay, and it was actually pretty easy. I have wanted to get an Icon since they were released (the US/VZW 930), but instead of upgrading now that I have the money I am going to wait until later this year and see what the new Windows 10 flagship phones look like.

if us Verizon users are lucky to get a flagship Windows 10 phone this year, AT&T probably has crack at it, like the 928 comes out months after the 920 did.

I did move up from the 928 to the Icon and while it's a .5" increase in screen space, the phone really was not larger, a bit of wasted bezel on the 928 I am sure that got to put in better use on the Icon for keeping the physical size close. The 635 I have for Win10 testing is smaller than my Icon and has a 4.5" screen on it.  It's shorter and a little less wider, about the same thickness (Icon also has Qi built in)
