Dollar-euro parity: What a one-to-one exchange means

Recommended Posts

As the euro's value sinks, the dollar-euro parity could affect your plans: whether you are investing in foreign markets or just planning a spring vacation in the south of France.

The strong greenback against plunging euro prices means there could soon be a one-to-one exchange rate between the currencies. And the magical state of parity is a significant marker not only because it reduces the cost of exchanging money

I bet the people watching Fox News think that the US is on course to economic ruin.

You mean Fox BUSINESS (the stock/option/currency-watching arm of Fox News) - currently under the watchful eye of ex-Dow Joneser Neil Cavuto (also ex-CNBC).

If anything, they see the US largely has not left the Great Recession (though even they are saying that we are in better shape than Europe).

The watchword (not just at Fox Business, but even CNBC, Bloomberg, and Dow Jones and Company itself) remains the BRIC sans Brazil, and especially the PRC.

Look at who is AT Fox Business - in addition to Cavuto, you have Maria Bartiromo, Charles Payne, Diedre Bolton, Melissa Francis, Gerri Willis, etc.  You may not like Cavuto's attitude (he IS a prickly pear; however, so is Chris Matthews, or even Rev. Al Sharpton, for that matter); however, he earned his chops by putting his brain to work.  Like Matthews, he WILL mea culpa when he's wrong (and if you watch his FBN show, he has already PUBLICLY eaten crow twice this year alone) - in fact, Cavuto's closest parallel on the liberal side happens to BE Matthews - who was just starting out at MSNBC while Cavuto was at CNBC and Dow Jones; he's also eaten crow - publicly - more often this year than Cavuto.

While FNC has taken a lot of heat for their blondes, Maria Bartiromo isn't blonde.  Diedre Bolton ("Risk and Reward") isn't blonde.  Liz Claman ("Before the Closing Bell"), Charles Payne ("Making Money"), John Stossel, and Kennedy CERTAINLY aren't blonde. (And would you have expected the amount of political acumen that Kennedy has shown while she was a VJ at MTV Networks (both MTV and VH1)?)
