Who thinks the new "macbook" is the.....

Recommended Posts

who here thinks the new "macbook" is the crocs of the laptop world?

it's tacky, only has one port, appeals to a target market that has more money than style or sense, and is slower than my cheap laptop or 99 dollar best buy tablet.

you're not the target demo aka too poor

this macbook is for people who have a desktop, a tablet and a smartphone but need something portable for productivity

its an Air with a great screen. this is for people who take notes at school but do their "work" at home or the professional who needs a full computer for productivity but only carries a small bag and no charger

someone who meets clients in restaurants or coffee shops

thing is "macbook" looks cheaper and less vogue than "macbook pro" and also this looks like you couldn't afford the MBP (since the "pro" would appear to be more high end) so you got this instead when the MPB is around the same price. so no "impressing" anyone here.

this is as bad as the people that pay hundreds for ripped up skinny jeans that look the same as 10 dollar jeans from wal-mart.

Yeah, I agree, this is for those that love OSX and want something really slim, light and portable and without tons of unnecessary ports...

Did those people exist before this macbook was announced? specifically the lack of port seekers

The average user now days has the following use case:

Browses the web

Checks their emails

Uses facebook/youtube

Edits the occasional photo

Works in office

None of these particularly require ports. Given the target audience is really people aiming for super portability, this really doesn't hurt them.

You'll see these device used most often by people who are travelling a lot for work and are working with the above use case.

Core M isn't marketed by performance by Intel, rather they focus on portability and small form factor.

Yep.

Brilliant!

:omg:

There is another word for people like that, cultists. Never have I ever seen the thought of paying more for OBJECTIVELY less being justified, until well, it is something regarding Apple.

So, people that love Apple's operating system, hardware and customer service and therefore choose to buy their products are cultists?  Wow, now I've heard it all....

Yes, did I misspell or something?  I've NEVER, EVER once connected an SD card or a thumb drive to my laptop.  I've also never connected my laptop to an external monitor and all my backup data is in the cloud so I don't own an external hard drive.  And I can't remember last time I had to do something that involved a physical disk.  So in my case, I don't need the vast majority of unnecessary ports on most laptops and if I actually didn't like my netbook so much I'd be buying this Macbook.  PS;  I'm willing to be there's a lot of people like me out there...

I always have one or more USB devices attatched to my laptop... most of the time it's a logitech unifying reciever for my K400 and M185, I have a edimax AC600 usb since the built in ra-link sucks, and a lot of the time I have a pen drive and this is every day... even when I'm out in a bout.

Well just today I plugged in a thumb drive with someone's presentation on it and connected to a projector. Those are pretty basic things any 'laptop' should be able to do. Even my Surface can do that.

Once again, not sure if I misspelled or not, but different users have different needs.  Is that too hard to comprehend?  Not too long ago all laptops had disk drives and rj-45 jacks...it basically all comes down to what the buyer wants the device for.  What you do with your laptop is going to be different from what I do with mine.  This concept can be applied for any device.

Is that a parody site like the onion?

Sadly, no. I own an iPhone and that site makes me question my self-worth for buying an Apple product.

Please, sit back and sample some of this high-rolling crap:

I would have preferred if they added the retina display, the new touchpad, and the new keyboard to the existing MacBook Airs. Honestly, I never looked at the MacBook Air and said that thing is too bulky. Moreover, the lack of ports (which is actually bad for mobility because imagine now you have the carry an additional adapter with you if you wish to plug something in) and the 0.3 megapixel 480P Facetime Camera are the real deal breakers for me with this design. With that being said, there will probably be people who will not need ports, are already in Apple's ecosystem, and want a super mobile laptop; so it is not for me (I have moved on from laptops to stylus wielding convertible devices) or many of the people on this site, but it is still a nice laptop, aside from the camera, that will cater to needs of at least certain people (I am fairly sure Apple researched the market demand for this device prior to making it).

I'm not sure what you're so worked up about regarding your spelling? You've brought it up twice now while defending this overpriced, underfeatured device. It's like the lack of features is a positive thing going for it. It's like if I made a car with one door on it and said "well I never have passengers so there's no need for a door on that side" and expected that to be the end of the story.

That's probably the worst analogy I've heard in a long time.  I like how kids are always first to point someone as "defending" a feature, or a company whenever someone says positive about an Apple product.  Could you re-read what I wrote so far, that's the reason why I'm worried I'm misspelling things.  So far all I've said is that there are people out there that this new macbook will appeal to (i wasn't the only one who said that) and that if people don't need all the extra ports (I used my example as I have never used anything other than the charging port on my netbook) and they like Apple products, then they may buy it.  You seriously needs to learn to read and comprehend what people say exactly when they talk about Apple products.

Would I buy this Macbook? No.

Are there people out there that will find it useful? Obviously.

Do people have different needs for their laptops? Again, obviously..

How you get that I'm defending anything from all of that is astounding to me.

So I guess when Apple does include those "unnecessary ports" that 99% of people never use, like Thunderbolt and Firewire, they're suddenly not unnecessary... they're forward-thinking and innovative!

And what you're defending is a lack of features that can and should be included at this price point ($1300 for something like this is just ridiculous).

What?  Now you've completely lost me, I have no idea what you're talking about.  If you need more ports there are other Macbooks or laptops for you.

What I'm defending is the right of people to buy what they want with their own money.  Are you seriously one of those people that gets mad when people spend money on something that "you" think isn't worth it?  Like already said multiple times, there are people out there that will buy this device for mobility and battery life and because they're already in an Apple ecosystem.  This is NOT the thinnest or lightest or a laptop with the longest battery life, but it is the thinnest and lightest Macbook and for some that's a good enough reason to buy it.

I don't get mad but I feel sorry for them knowing they could have gotten so much more for their money. It's like people who listen to Justin Beiber. I really can't do anything but shrug at people like that. Same goes for anyone using this thing. Like you said, they can buy whatever they want. For the same price or less they could get a MacBook Pro or a very nice Windows laptop or hybrid.

Then in another category there are the people promoting the existence of these things. I guess it's good to pay more for something that has less features.

For the price of this Macbook in Canada, both me and my girlfriend can fly to a really nice all-inclusive resort in Mexico, which is why I still use my Lenovo X120.  I don't think I would ever buy something so expensive but I've never cared much about people that do.  Another thing that people seem to forget is customer service and warranty.  Only Apple devices that I've owned were my iPhone and iPod before that and in both instances, whenever I had a problem their customer service was unprecedented.  A new product and an empty box to return my product in, what more can a person ask for....
