Sync Network Stream using VLC Player

Question

Does anyone know any settings I need to sync music played using VLC?

I have a computer upstairs in Room A which holds all my music.  This is connected to two sets of speakers, one locally in Room A and another set in Room B via a wire.

A HTPC is in Room C downstairs and is connected to a third set of speakers.

Both PCs are networked.

I used a guide to set up a playlist from Room A computer that streams to the HTPC in Room C.  Both PCs use VLC to send/receive the music.  However the music isn't synced as Room B is slightly ahead, by at least 10 seconds or so.

I left VLC with all the default values and streamed via UDP to 192.168.0.10 (the HTPC).  Then set the HTPC to open the stream from udp: //192.168.0.6 (the Room A PC), and it was happily playing music (on Room C's HTPC) until I changed the caching to 3000ms (default was 1000), then it wouldn't play anything, even after changing it back.

After going through loads of guides, this is the closest I have been to be able to play a file in different rooms of the house, but it'll be a shame if it's not sync'd.

Any ideas?

If I understand correctly you wan't the music to be in sync in 2 different rooms.

Room B is playing the music via wired speakers attached to the computer and Room C is playing music through a HTPC via a stream. Is this correct?

Are the speakers in Room B basically a 3.5mm stereo cable directly hooked into the soundcard of the computer? IF SO then I don't think you're going to be able to compensate for the network delay

Yes and yes is the answer.

It was basically a cheap bodge way of having music playing around the house in different rooms.

I guess I could've hooked the speakers up to the HTPC, but then the PC upstairs would still be out of sync.

Thanks though :)
