Be aware of this Nvidia driver issue

Recommended Posts

I got an error that my Nvidia driver had an error in using windows update, however, Nvidia experience says it successfully installed and shows 349.65.

so check your Nvidia experience app to verify your driver version. WDDM also installed successfully to 2.0

Update: I did shoot a feedback on this issue. I did see some post(s) about nvidia crashing on some peoples systems. I feel fortunate at this point.

I would just get the drivers directly from the nvidia website. Besides not running into issues like you're experiencing you don't always need to and/or want to update to the newest drivers.

It doesn't show up for me, but the update may as well be intended for people running Windows 10 on newer hardware. I have a 500-series card. If you get errors with Windows Update, try using the Troubleshooter from the Start Menu. It usually cleans up the old files, and restarts the associated services. Saved me more times than I can remember. And just like trag3dy said, don't get new drivers from Windows Update in w10, as they might be very unstable. Since we still have to wait a while for DirectX 12 games to come out, there's really no rush.

Will do some digging tomorrow.

I had looked for the drivers at Nvidia and they aren't there yet. Seems to be an issue since these drivers are for Windows 10TP. I looked far and wide fro these drivers. But for the OS side of things, it is necessary since it upgrades us to 349.65 on one hand and Windows Driver Display Model 2.0.

When they released these under 9926, I saw absolutely improved FPS in my games (I'm a gamer), this was a good thing for me. but aside from the error issue I mentioned, all seems in working order.

349.65 is an awful driver overall so I would rollback to 347.xx. Apart from stability issues it can reduce FPS in some games by like half. Check out all the whinging at for example Guru3D about it over the last month or so.

My video experience thus far has been a lot better than 9926. I can run games full-screen without it crashing now.

My current issue now is with the NVidia's audio drivers that installed. Right now I can't select 5.1 surround for my speakers. When i do and try to test the speakers, an error message pops up. My current work around is to set my speakers to 7.1 and disable the side speakers.

one issue is, the Nvidi adriver came with the 10041 update. I'm having issues with my game "dying light" and the Devs are looking into a fix for this. I'm not mad. Things happen. one massive problem is, Nvidia doesn't have their driver download feature updated to support Windows 10 TP which, is a no brainer. but perhaps they should?

UPDATE: windows update updated my Nvidia driver to  349.90 some how it crashes my game Dying Light but I sent an update email to the devs of techland and see if they'll get it fixed.
