KeeperOfThePizza
Looking for a inexpensive, decent hard drive for a rather "middle aged" laptop. Here's what Ubuntu 14.10 is telling me..
binaryzero
I'll do the typical neowin response - "Get an SSD". Don't think this is rocket science - most 2.5 inch drives cost the same amount. Find a Seagate or WD one that has enough space for what you need and away you go.
techbeck
Can get an 1TB SSHD drive for around $
The Evil Overlord
On the ssd bandwagon, neowin ads, and a few members would recommend the crucial ssd (often advertised on the forum index page) If it's within your budget, might be worth looking into
philcruicks
SSD/SSHD, depending on your budget and storage requirements. Samsung have some of the best SSD's. Not so up to date on my SSHD's but probably Seagate are best, maybe WD.
binaryzero
Wait for it to appear in your Windows update - the servers are probably getting slammed, and hasn't propagated to your nearest Update server (location wise). I sometimes have to wait a day or two before they get picked up sometimes, no big rush.
MoreRAM
hey before you get a new drive get a torque screw driver and find out online what the torque tension on the screws of your hdd is so-pose to be and tighten them back up your drive first and if that does not fix it buy a sshd dive there absolutely worth it! SMFH, What da ..... I'd take the opportunity to jump on the SSD train. Especially for a laptop. If you plan on getting a hybrid or a spinner, I'd stay away from Seagate these days. They seem to have picked up Maxtor's bad habits/QC since buying them years ago. Western Digital black or blue would be my preference. Sorry about Ubuntu
raid0
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=1190 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD on a single connector. Some people will say "Yes but it's like 2 HDD connected to the same sata port hence slow" but it's still better than a single HDD.
Praetor
Some comments in here are wrong and wth, but anyways.. Get an SSD, there's no need for a HDD once you try an SSD. And SSHD drives are crap, but at least are better then a single HHD.
patseguin Global Moderator Posted March 19, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted March 19, 2015 You might consider a 1TB Seagate hybrid drive. I have one in my MacBook Pro and it performs great.
FiB3R
If at any point you do consider going the torque wrench route, you may also want to consider hitting yourself in the head with it. gohpep, Praetor, Mindovermaster and 1 other 4 Share
+Warwagon MVC Posted March 19, 2015 MVC Share Posted March 19, 2015 I have seen videos on line where the torque was an issue, but in that case it was a guy putting a drive back together, and the drive wouldn't even spin up properly until it was torqued properly.
