Best OS for OLD netbook

Question

I have a Dell Mini 10V (upped to 2gb RAM), I know netbooks are crap and all the other stuff people say.

I travel a fair bit and use this for:

1) Copying photos off memory cards

2) A little light browsing, such as checking dates and times, etc

3) Maybe watch the odd film - which I am happy to devolve to my tablet

It can technically run Win 7/8 as well as OSX ;)  But I am left wondering what's gonna be the easiest on here.  Win 7 chugs a little now (understandably).  What should I be looking at for this machine?

The trouble with netbooks is the CPU are quite slow and the system is limited to only 2GB which you have maxed out. If it were mine i would either install Windows 8.1 or a Linux distro such as Linux Mint which will do everything you stated :)

Try Elementary OS: http://elementary.io/

It's very lightweight, but at the same time looks amazing. Try booting it from a Flashdrive and play around with it before you install it.

Windows 8 should run well enough.  An SSD would certainly stop it from chugging.

Yea, what I was going to say.  Slap in an SSD and that will help things.  I have a Netbook I am going to do that to...eventually.

Windows 7 should work fine. It ran adequately on my old netbook with just 1.5 GB, although not a speed demon, of course.

Got to agree with this. I used a couple of netbooks 3 or maybe 4 years ago for a project running windows 7 and it was a pain in the ***. If you use it here and there a couple of minutes it might be okay but for any extended period of time you want to pull your hairs out after a while.

Windows 8.1 might be better as it's tuned for tablet.
