Sony confirms massive official PlayStation TV price cut

Recommended Posts

Several UK retailers have been offering massive discounts on PlayStation TV today, which we originally put down to happy coincidence and stock clearance. However, we have now learned that Sony has officially slashed the RRP of the device in half, presumably in order to start shifting some units.

UPDATE: We just received the following statement from SCEE.

I hope they keep improving the Vita Game (Physical & Virtual) compatibility.

I don't have a PlayStation 4 but I do have a PlayStation Vita and a PlayStation 3 wireless controller.

What will the PlayStation TV offer me?

(I don't really understand what it is and reviews mainly mention PS4-related things)

Tempted to go out and buy one, but I own most of the games on PS3/PS4/PC etc, which are compatible with it anyway. Would be nice to see devs and / or Sony support touch controls with the DS4 touchpad in future.

I'm probably going to wait for a different game bundle to sweeten the deal before picking up. Awesome price though!

So do i get a rebate for being an earlier adopter?

I wasn't interested in any of the streaming functions. I still think that technology is pointless.

I enjoy it for playing my Vita games on the big screen. I went through Persona 4 Golden with it.

Great price now though.

Can I somehow play all the digital PS3 titles I own on this thing?

I own a ton of PS3 games, my PS3 YLOD... can't repair it since the fan is dead...

No. It's for playing Vita games on TV and / or streaming your PS4 in another room.

Unless you sub to PS Now, but I'm guessing you meant retail discs or PSN purchases?

It's a vita, but instead of hand held, it's hooked to your TV.

You can use the PS3, or PS4 controller with it.

It functions as a way to stream your PS4 to another tv in your house.

Play Vita games physical or eletronic (not all comptable yet) on the tv.

Acts as a device like google tv, roku, amazon fire, etc (once the apps work) to stream tv content to your tv.

Quick question, can I play any PS4 game on say my phone? I could have sworn I seen an advertisement where a kid was on his roof playing PS4 from his phone.

Now to this, I don't own a PS4, but to be able to stream a PS4 game on any TV would be badass. I hope Microsoft comes out with one of these.

I believe this is a feature of Sony phone/tablets. I don't have one personally so I may have misunderstood but my understanding is the PlayStation app on Sony Xperia phones and tablets allow this.

I don't believe there is any technical reason they couldn't open this up to other Android device (or even iOS) with sufficient hardware but I think for now they use it to try to sell their devices.

Oddly enough the PlayStation TV doesn't seem to support PlayStation Vue... I would have thought that would be a natural fit.

PS4 remote play is supposed to be exclusive to some Xperia phones, but unofficial ports have been made for other Android devices.

Thank god I don't have a PS4. I've been addicted to Destiny and I'd definitely not be able to get anything done if I was able to play it away from home.
