How do People Believe this Stuff?

Recommended Posts

I really don't believe stuff like this:

post-39459-0-29971700-1427558383.jpg

I mean, since 1940's?  They've managed to keep it quiet?

I really don't think the USA, or any other country for that matter, has a secret agency working with all this stuff.  You never hear anything about it, and in the world where our Prime Ministers' speech is leaked days before he is to make it, and the amount of leaks from phones, computers, operating systems and such, I really can't believe NOBODY has leaked anything about Area 51 or what not.

Perhaps there was something in the past but long gone now.

Unless someone can confirm Area 51 is under guard at all times?

Since we are talking about this, they didn't manage to keep it quiet :p Also, I think Fringe had an episode or two about this

I think the reason why people are inclined to believe this is because it's the army and the likelyhood of them experimenting with something that's quite...out there, so to speak, is pretty high. Beyond thinking this is pretty cool ( teleportation would be a pretty nifty thing to be able to do), I'm quite skeptical.

Also, where's my flying car? Can I at least have that?

How do people believe this stuff? Either lack of intelligence or desperation, or a mix of both.

Same reason as to why people tell campfire stories. If you try to backtrack sources, which can be difficult these days as I do try but often lead to nowhere, I noticed the ones I can backtrack well often get a start from a small article where the journalist obviously didn't research the story, mention names or anything. Others from freelance writers and in a few instances I found blog posts from authors where if you look up their name, you'll find their previous works were fiction stories, probably sold to whoever wants to publish such stories. The black eyed kids for example, I believe started on Reddit thread which snowballed from posters adding to the fiction to later readers that believed it...it has since spawned a few books and mentioned in documentaries on TV with one of the more popular stories in particular that I know of was a story written by a poster on that Reddit thread or there may be lots of Reddit threads about it now. I think the only reason why Slenderman never made it to the "real" category was due to it's popularity for being known as internet fiction so the media sites didn't get the chance to run away with it.

Then we come into photoshopping evidence where an enthusiast will create evidence and it keeps getting picked up on by sites like this. For example, a NASA original photo of a closeup of the moon surface shows good detail, but that same area was later blurred out by someone and said that NASA blurred it out and then photoshopped a moon base saying this is the decrypted or original...etc copy and it has to be an alien base....but it was all B.S. This particular base is now spread all over the internet .....I suspect personally that all of them are like this but I can't prove it because I never actually looked at NASA's entire photo's of the surface but it's reasonable that many may have been blurred out due to camera or conditions and that's just all that NASA has but who knows. Other evidence like Alien implants...etc are made from known metals and it's really poor as evidence but they try to show how it's impossible to manufacture due to some provided microscope level photo's....but we're not metallurgists so how is the layman to know if it's possible or not? Because some guy on Youtube told you.

If you read the Montauk Books by Peter Moon and whoever the other guy is and show it to someone with a degree in physics they tend to laugh at the descriptions of how these devices are built and work. The first book seems plausible to a layman like me, the others are laughable but I had a friend studying theoretical physics in college take a look at the drawings..etc in the first book back some 10 years ago or longer and he noted a couple things at least that were just false and couldn't happen....So I suspect all the books are fiction but I keep an open mind that perhaps something occurred but am just waiting for real evidence. So far the YT stories of the time travels sounds a bit daft.

I take everything with a grain of salt and try to remain neutral and stay to the facts without bias but you can't be so skeptical that you dismiss everything without providing a thesis showing a real reason for dismissal. Why? because it's laziness otherwise but technically a dismissal is no better or worse than the story itself. For example, to say someone imagined something or was dreaming....possible yes but unless you're a neurologist and can scientifically provide a thesis as to how this can occur without the person's knowledge then it's useless dismissal and nothing more.

I disagree. I have known a few conspiracy theorists in my time, however "stupid, deranged, dangerous or desperate" isn't how I would describe any of them. Frustrating? Yeah. Arrogant? Sometimes. Condescending? Often.

I think this is a pretty good summation of how conspiracy theories work & why they aren't as "unnatural" or "weird" as some might claim.

I think the biggest problem with conspiracy theorists is that it is so hard to argue them out of their position once it has set. Even when you offer them evidence which seriously damages their argument (in my personal experience, I have argued with 9/11 "truthers" & moon landing hoaxers) they won't say "OK. Your evidence and/or argument is compelling, or at least makes me reconsider my position" They will just go ahead and repeat the same debunked nonsense to someone else they argue with.

If the science behind it was real (creating an electro magnetic bubble around an object) then it would of been replicated already in the scientific community and proven/disproven that teleportation of this degree exists.
No one has done it, so I believe there is your answer whether its happened or not. It didn't.

... or did it? ;)

I think the issue here isn't really the alleged teleportation tech itself but the secretive nature of the military. We know for certain that militaries develop technology and indeed sometimes have sophisticated, proprietary technology at their disposal, so it stands to reason that people imagine all types of technology, no matter how scientifically implausible it is, to be in the possession of the military.

Area 51 absolutely exists. Do they have aliens there? I am overwhelmingly certain they don't. Do they develop and/or test sophisticated military tech there? I have no doubt they do.

As I recall, Area 51 is where the U.S. Air Force tested both the F-117A "NightHawk" Stealth fighter, and the B-2 "Spirit" Stealth bomber, among other high-tech military aircraft that have been flown there.

im not surprised if it was possible. You think you know everything thats going on. You only know a fraction of the stuff.

Probably a few illegal aliens at least.

lol. I think if you want to work in Area 51 you have to be an American citizen and go through a considerable vetting process.

Probably correct. I am no expert on Area 51. But as I said earlier, there is no doubt it is a no-go-zone for the rest of us because they are developing the kind of technology they don't want anyone to get near. The Americans spend a tremendous amount of money developing their weaponry (a point which is worthy of debate) so there is no reason to believe they wouldn't have sites to develop and test it.

But, I am a good sceptic, if anyone provide evidence that there are alien craft or grey aliens (the most common alien cited by believers) being concealed by the American government I will change my opinion.

It's not about "knowing everything" it much more about how plausible such a thing is. The Phily experiment is a prime example of something that is entirely implausible and uncorroborated.

They made a movie about it! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087910/?ref_=nv_sr_2

It has to be real if they made a movie about it.

Two, actually.. Though the second was dreadful...

IIRC, from books I've read over the years, there actually -was- an experiment on the USS Eldridge back in the 40's.  I think it was something to do with radar, which was very very new at the time.  It certainly wasn't anything to do with teleportation or invisibility or even radar jamming as the only people who had it were the UK (we invented it!), and our allies who we shared it with.

From what I recall reading, I think there was some kind of accident too, but really, nothing like the myths...

While this experiment/research is a little bit out there I do not doubt that there are many top secret research projects that have been going on for 50+ years in total secrecy. For all of the leaks we see there are dozens more things that do not leak. Ever. Governments are very good at keeping secret the things they really want kept secret. Projects with only a couple of hundred people working on it are unlikely to ever leak because not only are the number of people "in the know" very small but they also know if they ever did say anything they would be dead before the end of the day.

The thing is, and I'm not saying I believe what was in the OP but at some point, something new and revolutionary will have came along and it will have blown peoples minds.

Imagine what people first thought when someone came home and said they saw some people flying - most wouldn't have believed them at the time.  Or FFM's example above, when the guys came home that day and told their significant others than they could detect a ship or a plane 10KM's away or whatever its range was at the time, without actually being able to see it.

People would have said they were crazy.

People's reaction even now, when I sometimes get my car to park itself, they are amazed still.

At one point things were new, crazy and scientifically "impossible"... but not tomorrow, yesterdays impossible is tomorrows possible. So when I see things like this, I don't dismiss it as a never, I think I wonder what might have been possible.

Good Job insulting people who believe something that you don't!!!

As far as I'm concerned I don't have any facts to prove or disprove that these experiments took place and until I do I will hold my judgement. Could they have taken place? Yes. Did they take place? Who knows. Without the DoD declassifying documents regarding the experiments I guess we'll never know.

I suppose if I told you that the Nazis had a jet propelled flying wing that was almost invisible to radar you would completely dismiss it, would you?

No, because physics.

I suggest you reread the original post a few times.

That's the one!
