I would have to believe it's because people love collecting things, because Amiibo functionality and game compatibility aren't great so far. Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS seems to have the most Amiibo support so far, yet they still haven't released the Amiibo reader for 3DS; I don't understand Nintendo's release strategy.
