+Warwagon MVC Posted April 3, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 3, 2015 If you are like me you probably have a BUNCH of USB memory sticks just scattered around. Sometimes when there is one you want you spend a while just looking for it. You probably also have your usb's piled in a certain spot. So I was trying to think how I would organize usb my USB memory sticks. I was thinking, what about some sort of rectangular box that I could plug my USB drives into to store them. Then I thought, um.... that already exists, That's a USB HUB. So I bought a 12 port one and look how well it works http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051PGX2I/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 helpifIcan, Odom and Ian S. 3 Share
+BudMan MVC Posted April 3, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 3, 2015 $25 for a place to store you sticks?? You must have money to burn? I put them in a drawer for free, leaving space available on my desk for stuff actually using at the time thanks.. +devHead, sc302, timster and 12 others 15 Share

+BudMan MVC Posted April 3, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 3, 2015 Not sure who is doing your taxes - but no a usb hub is not deductible for pretty much anyone. Nor does deducting $25 = anywhere close to return of that $25.. Best case saves you tax % of what you would owe on that, which pretty much is no where freaking close to $25.. Sure deducting it doesn't justify the $25 but oh well. As someone who owns their own computer repair business, a USB hub would not be an uncommon business expense. T3X4S
I think that is a neat idea - and at first I would think that would be handy. Then the more I thought about it, I realized I never use more than 1 at a time. Meaning when I get a larger/faster one - I give away the one I was using. I bought the 128GB Corsair GTX because it was the fastest USB on the planet, and I'll never use 128GB - all my backups are cloud or internal HDD So, since I didnt need any other flash drives, I throw them away or give them away - usually give them to someone who comments they like it.... But thats me - I am sure others would like that little idea. AMPSV 1 Share
sc302 Veteran Posted April 3, 2015 Veteran Share Posted April 3, 2015 to me a usb stick is as disposable as a floppy disk. I have a ton of them in my drawers. I misplaced more than you have on your little usb hub. Most of them have loops, put a string through them you could easily use either pegboard or a thumbtack board to hold them at 1/10 the cost. tsupersonic
I loved using this back in the day for the occasional school project/work. Nowadays, if I need to store something or transfer something, I just use a cloud service. Very rarely do I have to transfer huge files or have a generally have a necessity for USB flash drives. The three that I do have are lying right by my desktop. I do use one of them as install media (for Windows)
+BudMan MVC Posted April 3, 2015 MVC Share Posted April 3, 2015 Here is another fine idea for storage, for those that have money to burn like warwagon or can deduct whatever you purchase as a business expense. Get yourself a nice solid gold box.. Your talking 10's of Ks I am sure -- but hey its deductible Something like this should do nicely. For tax purposes put label the cost usb storage - because for sure that were never be flagged for an audit or anything. While sure this box is 1000's of times more expensive than the stuff you will be putting in it, you know those throw away sticks that you get when you go to any sort of tech show for free by the handful, etc.. Tha Bloo Monkee
Deductible or not it's just $25, if he chooses to spend a mere $25 on a nice way to organize his USB sticks then so be it. It's not a bad idea, and if for some reason you need to connect all of them at once all you have to do is plug in the hub (and get greeted with 12 autoplays, one for each USB device). Rohdekill
If the entire idea is to keep them organized, all in one handy location.....you got my vote. And, I'm referring to Budman - keep them all in one drawer for free.

Defcon
I don't want my USB sticks plugged into a port, that defeats the entire point ! I have them in my wallet, in various drawers, in my car/backpack, on my keychain etc.
