Creating a Tiled Image Grid

Question

I'm quickly discovering that people use many different names for the same type of image.

The attached file which I found in 20 seconds with Google is simply a small collection of

of images from a video assembled into a single jpeg.

Some people call this a mosaic, tile, grid, array, and several other names I can't remember!

Almost every video available for download provides this type of image array so you can see

key moments in the video.

Despite decades of buildng and using computers, I'm an image editing novice.  I never had the

need or desire to create images or make videos.

I recently downloaded a large collection of technical videos and jpeg screenshots.

Most of the image editing software I found while searching is much too complex for the simple

task I want to perform.  There must be some "primitive" freeware that will allow a newbie to

create a single jpeg grid from multiple jpeg images.

A friend suggested I try the free Google app Picisa.  I don't think he really understood what

I wanted to do.  In any case, the Picasa help file was not helpful!  I try all new software in a

virtual environment, so it's easy to dump the contents if necessary.

Are you trying to combine jpegs into a single image or are you trying to get a grid of thumbnails out of a video file?

I know Media Player Classic can do the video thing no problem. Here's a quick video of how to do it:

Thank you for replying Enron.

I apologize for my lack of clarity.

I've got several nice looking jpegs for each video I downloaded. I am
not trying to create new images or thumbnails.

I want to combine the jpegs I've got so they look exactly like the video
sample image attached to my original post.

I'm hoping to find an app that displays a grid of empty boxes, allowing
the user to fill each box with a jpeg and then saving the whole thing
as a single image.

The attached "empty box" image would be a perfect app for me. I doubt if
anyone has authored an app this simple.
