Share your known issues with Windows 10 for phones

Not sure why there isn't a separate thread for this yet. The main Windows 10 TP thread is way too long to filter stuff for phones and desktop.

I'll start.

On Lumia 925 the Outlook mail font can't be made bigger anywhere, it's tiny!

Personalization options don't work (most) a background can only be selected if it's in the Photos' folder

Actions for lockscreen and glance screen can't be set, but it seems to have remembered my settings from 8.1 (so less of a deal)

Calendar live tile sometimes shows the date, or just the Outlook calendar icon

Glance screen only shows the time and day 'monday' not the full date

Weather tile doesn't seem to want to update to a live tile

I'm currently installing the second W10TP update, so will report back if there have been changes to the above.

On pop-up actions (like allowing an app access to location) the fonts get all crazy big overlap so that the text is giant on the little pop-up.

Yeah the confirm boxes you mean.. they seem to be doubled up on some settings pages too (on the actual page, and as a popup in a messy font and state).

1. On my T-Mobile Lumia 925, I had hell getting a data connection. I would be showing full bars of LTE, but couldn't access anything that required data. After tribulations I will not recount here, I managed to get things working. I had to roll back to 8.1, update to 10, hard reset, restore from a backup, then input the APN in the Extras>access point.

Oh and if you have to do this, MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!!

2. There is no way as of yet (at least that I can find) to access background tasks for apps in Battery Saver. It crashes when tapping it.

3. There is no way as of yet (at least that I can find) to add custom message tones. Ringtones you can do just fine, however.

4. Battery Life is currently atrocious. I expected it to be worse for an non-optimized OS. But, I think my max right now is 3 hours... maybe.

I'm sure there's some other stuff I've forgotten at this point. I'll edit or repost if I think of any.

Outside of that, I like the direction their going feature-wise. Not so much UI-wise (though some things do look nice).

OMG 3 hours? you must have everything on right? Bluetooth, NFC etc?? I am not getting those poor battery times with my 925.. and I left home while it was still finishing the initial W10 update (and resyncing my apps) yesterday, battery was fine when I was out for 8+ hours :s

The default camera lens has been set to some sort of kaleidoscope in the viewfinder, to fix you need to hit settings and then select the 'Lumia Camera' lens. (on 925 and 920 confirmed as an issue).

Extremely buggy build.
Random reboots.

Settings app crashes.
Notifications center can not be dragged down reliably 100% of the time.
Scrolling glitches all over the system, with weird bounces of sudden interupts etc.

On my Lumia 920, the test was short, it's impossible to enter the sim pin code. You can type on the keyboard, you don't see the '*' characters on the screen.

The phone is hanged on this screen and it becomes very hot.

Turning off the phone and starting it without a sim card is OK but a phone without a sim card.... is not really a phone :) so I went back to WP8.1

Waiting for a fix to try again.

Lumia 920. Most of it is software related though IMO, not device specific. The unnatural scrolling etc.

There is an easy fix for this. :)

When asked to enter your PIN, choose Cancel.

Then, go to Settings -> System -> Phone. Disable SIM security and enter your PIN.

Then, re-enable SIM security. Enter your PIN again.

This works consistently on my Lumia 920 and many other. It's really annoying I know.

BTW I also don't see the * when typing my PIN. It's normal  (I guess)

Maybe not an issue, but EXTREMELY annoying.

My Lumia 920 screen is cracked pretty badly. There are also some cracks running over the proximity sensor.

This results in some disastrous behavior while making phone calls. When I call someone who doesn't pick up, it goes over to the voicemail. All is good until here. But because there are cracks in front of the proximity sensor the phone Always thinks I'm holding it next to my ear, therefor it disables the screen (and no button can enable it). This means I can not, I repeat, I can not hang up the call. I literally have to hard reset my phone (power button + volume down) each time I call someone who doesn't pick up in order to quit the phone call and prevent my phone from recording a voicemail message.

Only when the receiver hangs up my screen lights up again.

Absolutely insane.

Sprint, Lumia 635 (RM-1078)

Phone Reset = Blank UI / Unable to launch anything.

Home / App Screen missing. Could get bottom bar to come, just vibrate on click, nothing else.

Reverted back to Stock via recovery tool safely.

Off Topic - Went back to 8.1 update 2 and stayed there, for now.

8.1 Update 2 - worked as intended after factory reset test.

Lumia 920 - rogers/CA

Tried 3 times all failed with same symptoms after upgrading:

1st attempt:  Straight from where my phone was (Cyan) to Win 10

- While migrating data step phone got extremely hot but completes the step 100%, restarts and hangs with dark unresponsive screen - never boots up again. Waited more then 2 hours thinking there may be something going on in the background. Did hard reset and phone booted up with message welcome to windows 10 TP update was successful- hooray.

- Missing my emails went to set them up but could not as No keyboard  is available at all.

- Switching the active apps showed another screen with error stating something wrong went and can not update - conflicting completely the after boot message that all was OK

- Home screen has scrolling issue (floating waves effect) that I have only seen on PCs that us temp VGA driver display on HD display cards.

- The icons even scaled properly on home screen - the goodbuy message was off the screen on shutdown and others screens seem scaled to high (to small font that used to be clear and larger on Win 8.1)

- OK lets try phone - did not want to open from home or from apps list, but if I search LEGACY contact name and dial the number from contact it dials and works but then on end phone gets frozen completely - useless.

- Receiving call was worst - froze the phone immediately.

- The most disappointing was that I can even open settings.

- Notification bar on top could not be dropped down all times and settings were not actually toggling state (i.e. Bluetooth was not responsive or Wi-Fi will not do anything just change the sate of the icon).

- None of the new/improved Win10 apps worked (cant open them - new people hub, weather app and half dozen

- Used Recovery to get back to 8.1 - and when prompted I restored my phone from the backup

Before 2nd attempt

- I was member of Dev preview and Insider so I did not install or activated those apps this time. Did normal check for updates and followed all suggested updates by Rogers. This time Extras and Info showed welcome to Denim - which is not true for rogers (still on Cyan). OK that may have been an issue - it had to be on Denim to upgrade - so I did try again - but Windows 10 failed with exactly same steps above - getting hot, stuck after reboot, no keyboard and tow conflicting messages one success another something went wrong.

3rd attempt - recovered back to 8.1

- Did not restore from backup to avoid migration of data or bad app that may have been causing this - but experienced exactly same results as in previous two attempts so I gave up.

My Lumia 920 with 8.1 works beautifully for me - have no issue with it and I am happy to continue using it. I guess it served me that well in the past that I had high hopes it will do the same with Win10.

All in all terrible results for me - completely unusable phone with Win 10 - no phone, no contacts, no keyboard - no settings to change. Disappointed - will wait for much more stable release before I try again.

I have documented all my stuff and submitting to Insider/MSFT today for further review.

Yea it's pretty extreme. I don't know why they chose to start releasing Technical Previews for phones already. It's so incomplete/buggy it's not even funny. Windows 10 on desktops is always way ahead in development. God knows why?

I had mobile data drop out completedy after half a day.. I had to "reset phone" (in settings/about).  Since the reset to defaults it has been a lot better.

The 3 issues I have on my 1020 are

1.  Dialer crashes almost instantly and is unusable

2.  Camera shows 4 small, skinny viewports on the right hand side of the screen and impossible to aim at subjects that way.

3.  When changing start background, if I "choose location" and try to navigate to the pictures folder on the phone, file explorer crashes.

Apart from that it's actually pretty cool, enjoying it.  I think pretty much everything works without problem on my 530.

I can't skip bluetooth tracks on my car stereo when connected to the phone now but that's not a dealbreaker

The preview is a cesspool of bugs. While I'm loving a lot of the new design language, because I can't even open most of the first-party apps and because they crash more often than not, I haven't even been able to see some of the updated designs or been able to enjoy those that I can.

1. Suffering from the omnipresent SIM bug.

2. I haven't read anyone else complain about this but my phone literally has one use. By this, I mean that when I hard reset//restart the phone, I can unlock the phone once but as soon as it locks automatically, the phone becomes unresponsive. The proximity sensor still works and the glance screen comes up when I put my hand close to it but, apart from that, nothing else works and I don't see the lock screen, no matter what button I press, or how many times. As such, I literally have to physically reset the phone after each use.

3. Apps crash far too often.

4. EVERYTHING is slower than a snail.

5. Messaging crashes on startup. I haven't even seen how it looks.

6. Outlook Mail and Calendar are even worse. Their tiles are completely useless, no matter how many times I click, it doesn't even initiate the apps to open, let alone a startup crash. Literally, nothing.

7. Phone also crashed on startup because of the SIM bug.

With the added bonus of Office being cut from the build, Microsoft really, really jumped the gun on this one. You'll normally find me defending them as it is, after all, a beta and I know what I signed up for but basic things like Phone and SIM functions not working at all and the fact that I have to reset the phone literally every time I use it makes it unbearable. Then, there's the fact that a LOT of the first party apps don't even work. If it was third-party stuff, I'd understand but this is the stuff they made in-house. How they could so monumentally drop the ball on this, I can't even imagine.

Have you tried a hardreset as that fixed most of the above on my 1020.

My main issues are:-

outlook

No way to group inboxes

no alert to new email etc

system

slow loading apps sometimes and battery life is lower than normal.

Same here on the 1520 pretty much everything was either too small or off canter add to that the loss of all the features that made the os good.

Lumia 920 (before I went back to 8.1)

- Touch randomly stopped working for few mins, needed reboots to get it working again

- Default camera messed up

- Screenshots say "can't save screenshot" but they took it anyway

- Photos app won't show screenshots but they were visible in File Explorer

- Multitask view wouldn't show the close button and won't let me close apps by swiping down

- Workplace won't let me add my work account

- Live tiles for many apps didn't work

- Keyboard stopped working a couple of times. It would show up but then won't take any input

- The cursor control dot didn't show in some keyboards
