10056 Calculator is FAAAAST, and can be resized!

Recommended Posts

I noticed the calculator in build 10056 has gotten much improved launch time. There's hardly any splash screen visible, it basically just flickers before the app has finished loading.

It can also be resized to pretty much the same size as the Vista+ calculator. Now the only thing missing is several app instances. I'm sure that's coming in future builds.

Agreed. Hoping they go away before RTM!

yeah, a splash screen for a calc ?    that is why i did not like modern apps.

on my win8.1     calc program loads in less then a second, basically when i click it i can immediately start typing.

calc app however makes me look at full screen splash screen for a bit, before i can work.   why?  is it such a big program?

or do they feel the need to show me what i am running (as if i don't know)   or is it bad coding?

if all apps in 10 will have splash screens like they do in 8.1 on powerful desktop PC, i will be seriously disappointing.

PS.

Damn it is ugly.   It looks like someone prepared a layout in text editor, before passing it to the coders, just to show what buttons they need to code.

As if no work on actual design of the program looks have being done yet.   only printed text on plain paper.

1. App launch times have been dramatically improved. The next logical step would be to remove splash screens from the apps that load very quickly. However, logic doesn't seem to be your friend.

2. The design is NOT finished. It breaks if you resize it smaller than the screenshot. Things start overlapping etc.

If you're referring to the flat design... Get over it! The shiny, tacky eyesore that is Aero is not coming back.

Brandon explained it in another thread, where he also said they would go away.

However, logic doesn't seem to be your friend.

why thank you for that jab at me.  how did i deserve it, i wonder?

considering i am way more logical then most people i know (when sober)

logical thinking was always my strong point that helped me out a lot in completing 2 university bachelor degrees in computer science and business administration. :o

in fact logical reasoning was the part of the IQ test i score the highest.  (Verbal is the lowest, so I forgive you for not understanding what i am saying)

but sure, you can determine that logic is not my friend...  :pinch:

or are you just butthurt, because someone called the design without the design ugly?

because, come on, there is literally no design in that image of calculator.

plain background and black text. that is all. unless you call a choice of font a design...

flat styles can have some design too, you know...

PS. logically,  the calculator app should load as fast as program called calculator, unless it shows that the apps have are not programmed as well.

that is logical. a simple app should load as fast as a simple program.

and if it does not, i prefer not to use it.       since it does not offer anything of an improvement over a standard desktop program for me.   that is logical too.

if they don't fix it, i will continue to use old program over the new "fancy" app, when ever i can.

logic FTW

Hope they add programmer functionality back [emoji53]

And the worksheets feature is STILL missing.

Typical of Metro apps: minimalism for the sake of the chosen special mobile users.

I'll stick with Win7 calculator.

you mean the useless feature used by one person, that's far better served by the free web office. the feature that had no place in a calculator to start with...
