Can't access shares on secondary domain (trust)

Recommended Posts

I have setup an external two-way trust between 2 domains.

I need users from domain1 to be able to access some shares from domain2 and vice versa.

I have setup DNS and can ping both servers from both locations, all looks ok here.

I am having trouble accessing shares in one direction.

domain2 to domain1 works fine, but domain1 to domain2 gives an error:

\\10.83.123.6 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.

There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.

Any ideas? can't see what is wrong.

I have just noticed it appears to be one server that isn't the DC.. domain1 has 2 servers the 1st is the DC i can connect to this, the second is not a DC, this is the one throwing the error.

Try the unc name. Check event viewer on the server.

It's the same with IP and UNC.

\\server1 (DC - 10.83.123.4) => this works, it pops up asking for network credentials.

\\server2 (10.83.123.6) => brings the error in my 1st post about not being accessible / no logon servers

in the other direction everything works fine.

It looks like the trust only has access to the DC because other servers are showing the same error. Can't see anything in event logs either.

Maybe it's permissions? though it's not even asking for credentials :(

need to inspect your event logs.  security, dns, replication, system,

Logged on to a machine this morning and shares connected fine, I guess it was just delay in replicating or something?
