vulcanman
So I have had this setup for a while now - and its awesome - my work laptop (a Dell) does not do 4K via ext. monitor. So I have this setup and use Chrome RDP to connect to my laptop - so if I am working from home I have a RDP window where I can interact with my laptop. Incidentally, via the RDP app the Dell laptop screen resolution can be configured to close to 4K. I say close because the RDP app for some reason limits the screen size to 3840x1920 - 4K is 3840x2160. I am using the Chromebox in its native mode - I have no reason to install the hack to make it a media player since I have a Roku3 and a AppleTV. Moreover, since this is actual PC web interface - I can get to and play media that are generally restricted or unavailable on the Roku or Apple TV. One of the side benefits is that 4K videos on Youtube - truly play in 4K. In comparison, the Samsung Smart TV YouTube app never plays it at 4K. How do I know that - I did a screen capture of a 4K desktop screen and made a 7 minute video. Basically the video has no motion - just the still image of a very high resolution screen. When I play the Youtube stream on my Chromebox it looks identical to the original. Here is the youtube 4K test video for anyone else interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYPHbguy17M The 4K jpeg from which the video was made is here http://s23.postimg.org/w052ay3yx/3840_2160_screencapture.jpg

vulcanman
4K is actually 4096x2160 I figured someone would nitpick - that's what they adopted ... so be it. Easier than saying 3840x2160 everytime. I figured someone would nitpick - that's what they adopted ... so be it. Easier than saying 3840x2160 everytime. Having said that the Chromebox detects the TV as a 4096x2160 @ 24hz display but offers a choice of 3840x2160 @ 30hz.
