Concept: Addressing the problem with modern/desktop icon design inconsistency.

Recommended Posts

I was never a fan of the outlined icons in Windows 10. But since it looks like they're here to stay (And to be honest they have grown on me). I realized they're perfect base for consistent looking desktop icons. So, what I'm proposing is that they simply fill the outlined metro icons with a solid color (or two colors for compound glyphs).

Here's a rough mockup how it would look (Please excuse the recycle bin design, lol). The icons in the mockup are quite large, but the idea is that the outline would scale down to 1px in the smallest icon sizes.

This is in my opinion a near perfect compromize between a flat style and the icons being clear in a busy background.

Looks a lot better.. I remember I hated the way XP looked when it came out...Look like Little Tykes My First OS. lol I'm sure we will get "use" to it and hate the next design change
