Cat7 Cables - Uhhh... what ?

Recommended Posts

OK, I had to post this because I was shocked it even exists.

We all know the debate about high dollar cables v "regular cables".

Well I was directed to an article in some Hi-Fi audiophile online magazine where the author claimed that switching from Cat5 to these Cat7 improved the sound quality.... you read that right.

So, naturally, the article made recommendations - including this:

26 feet - $5500

Now there are naive people, and there are people who have self-esteem issues and feel the need to show off absurd purchases, and there are those with more money than brains.   But I think even those people have to stand back and look at this and think "Oh c'mon, now that is just stupid."

When my parents had their theater room done in their house, they just signed a check, didnt ask any questions, and the company took total advantage of the situation (charged $5000 for DirectTV installation ?!? )

But even my father would look at this and say "thats stupid" .... I hope.

Not many years ago, there was a blind audio test conducted at one of US universities to check out the performance of "high-end" audio cables vs regular.

This was the winner:

And since You like fancy cables, after You've done ordering those two (the CAT and HDMI) you MUST HAVE this for audio

http://www.thecableco.com/Product/Siltech-Emperor-Double-Crown

Only 45k for 2meters. If You need 3 meters, no need to worry, they got you covered: $56660

Edit: from my DAC to my speakers it's about 5 meters so I thought I'd see how much: Price: $109,800.00

I use lightintg flex for all my audio cabling, sounds reasonable to me (I have a fairly high end set-up in terms of amps, speakers and my dac), since all a cable has to do is get the signal there, I don't see the benefit in all these silly priced cables.

A sucker born every minute.  The worst part about all of this is there are people who actually have convinced themselves there is a difference in performance.

Just so you know, if you took this picture, someones name is showing up on the bottom left where it says "Denise Tierney - LEWISVILLE".

Ive seen this and that comment before, that reviewer is hilarious and all this high dollar cables are made for straight morons.

I have found that unless you purchase your cables from Monoprice.com, you're probably overpaying.  They even have an article on the futility of paying for "highend" cables for digital signals.  It's a very interesting read.

if it's digital audio, and it more then likely is if its going over Ethernet... cat 5 vs cat5e vs cat6 vs cat7  it literally will all sound the same.. because what audio file requires 1Gbps+ to run that would want a higher bandwidth that a cat6 or cat7 would get you?

I love monoprice, but shipping to Canada for most stuff (i was looking for ceiling projector mounts and the quick connect cabling) is almost as expensive as buying an audioquest cable. It makes me sad.
