Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 23, 2015 Moderator Share Posted April 23, 2015 If you may or may not know, Ubuntu/Debian, has better NVIDIA support, than AMD/ATI. Currently, I own a Radeon 7850. (RMA'd my 6850 and get this back) What would you guys suggest? Like a 960, perhaps? Only requirements are that I have are that it is has 2 DP's or 2 HDMI, or either of the 2. I have 2 monitors that only have HDMI connections. Currently, I have 2x HDMI > DP adapters for my current card. Price range, maybe $150-200? I don't game aside from Minecraft, but I may game in the future, so best be prepared. simonlang
what about a gtx 750 ti? has only 1 hdmi port but comes with 2 dvi ports and one standard vga port as well. might be a bit cheaper than a 960 too.
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 23, 2015 Author Moderator Share Posted April 23, 2015 Any specific brand you would recommend?
simonlang
depends on your mainboard ... if you got an asus mainboard i would go for an asus gpu as well, however mine is msi which works just as fine on a cheap asus board and afair msi is quite a bit cheaper than asus. since my system is relatively new still i can't serve you with long term experiences. Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 23, 2015 Author Moderator Share Posted April 23, 2015 I have an ASRock board, so that's out of the question atm. Though they are a part of ASUS. But there are many different brands, EVGA, ASUS, Gigabyte, Zotac, PNY, etc....
simonlang
i would either go with msi, asus or gigabyte. not so keen on zotac or pny.
Boo Berry
For Nvidia cards, EVGA, hands down. +E.Worm Jimmy and Open Minded 2 Share
Aergan
Not had a lot of luck with MSI over the last few years (3 card failures now - GT 520, GTX 650 and GTX 770 - twice). I'd put my vote for Gigabyte at the moment. Had a few ASUS returned due to fan failures but not actual card failures.
Odom Member Posted April 24, 2015 Member Share Posted April 24, 2015 I had all kinds of brands with nVidia and I can't really recommend any in particular. They all performed according to their specs. When I looked at the prices, there were small differences, but when you check the specs, those more expensive cards also were clocked higher than the cheaper ones. Personally, I like the ASUS cards. They look nice and fit well together with the other ASUS equipment that I have.
iogbrideau
I've always owned EVGA cards, great warranty and they don't fail. +E.Worm Jimmy 1 Share
Unobscured Vision
I'm partial to the Gigabyte Windforce 750ti, but it does not have the VGA port, so perhaps the EVGA one will be more suitable.
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 24, 2015 Author Moderator Share Posted April 24, 2015 I don't care about VGA, lol...
iogbrideau
Thing is, I'm surprise they still have VGA on some cards, my EVGA cards from 2012 do not have VGA, only DVI and HDMI.
x-scratch
i'm in the same boat as you mindovermaster. ati/amd drivers suck in linux ill most liekly order this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121911 not into pc gaming so i'm not worried if its not a highend card
Aergan
I'm using a passive Gigabyte Nvidia GT 610 1GB that cost me
Unobscured Vision
Careful with those 610's. They can overheat, and that overheating can severely reduce their lifespan -- and I speak from personal experience. Mine didn't last two years, and it had a fan. That was the last PNY product I ever bought.
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted April 25, 2015 Author Moderator Share Posted April 25, 2015 This one any good? I'll buy it next week, after I get money. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125502 Unobscured Vision 1 Share
Unobscured Vision
Yes sir, that's the same model I have. Windforce 750ti. Runs nicely, the extra cooling keeps the temps very low under load (34C). Great card, and a great choice. It won't set any speed records, but it's a Maxwell-based card and my 400-watt Cooler Master PSU pushes it without complaint. Since you're already using the HD7850, chances are your system will consume less power to drive it.
