Microsoft updates OneDrive for Windows Phone with transparent Start screen tile

It's been just over a year since Microsoft first announced Windows Phone 8.1, introducing - among many other new features - new customization options for the Start screen, including the ability to set a background image to be visible 'through' the tiles.

That only works if the app developer has tweaked the tile to be 'transparent' - and it's a bit surprising that Microsoft itself hasn't exactly rushed to enable that functionality in its own apps. Indeed, the likes of Skype, Bing News and Office are among many Microsoft apps on Windows Phone that still don't have transparent tiles.

But the company has finally introduced this feature to OneDrive with its latest update to the app on Windows Phone 8.1.

Unfortunately, the update hasn't delivered any other new features - the only other changes that Microsoft lists in its changelog for OneDrive 4.11 are "bug fixes and performance improvements".

Still, while there's not much else to get excited about in this latest update, at least there's now one extra tile on your Start screen through which you can view your background images.
