USB Encryption

Question

So I am going to be help running a youth support group in a few days and I already have quite a few documents on my USB Memory Stick that has personal information such as addresses, national insurance numbers, names. The lot. And I was wondering how I would go about encrypting the drive so in case it gets lost or stolen they can not easily access the information. I have thought about using Bitlocker to Go but I am unsure if that can be de-crypted on the windows 7 work machines as we do not have Admin rights so are there any other alternatives to On the go USB stick encryption?

What about Bitlocker to go?

hmm. should work as long as your work machines do have any group policies active to stop it

after a bit of googling it looks like bitlocker to go shouldn't require admin rights to decrypt

Buy a USB that comes with AES256

Right. While that may be a thing I do not have time to go and get one or order one before we start and I would like to encrypt the content of this drive.

unfortunately that's going to be your only option

every software solution (such as trucrypt or bitlocker) require admin privileges

Quick update. Bitlocker To Go works perfectly at work so I am going to stick with that. It does what I need it to do and lets face it I HIGHLY doubt any of the people who could possibly get hold of it could remove the encryption. Ty.

How about TrueCrypt/VeraCrypt? Cross-platform, and free. I use for a machine fully encrypted with family financials and loggedin accounts safely with a long password

the problem is you need admin privileges to unencrypt

that's the problem with most software encryption solutions. which it seems bitlocker finally broke that trend
