What Is The 'The Diagnostic Tracking Service'?

Recommended Posts

I just got an new item show up on my Windows Update. The Diagnostic Tracking Service.

Anyone know what this is all about?  :huh:

From the MS site:

"This update enables the Diagnostics Tracking Service in Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This tracking service collects data about functional issues in Windows."

This Update is described in;

KB3022345

Windows 7 (SP1)

I decided to go ahead and install this update. The install went well.

I came back to the computer after the computer was turned off for several hours. This is when I very briefly saw a STOP screen and finally a selection to either do a 'Startup Repair' or 'Startup' Normally. (The STOP screen only showed for a brief instant so I had no chance to see what any messages might have been.)

I chose Startup Repair. During this process it ask me whether I wanted to restore the system (back to the latest Restore Point) and I said yes.

So far everything seems to be working back to normal again.

Yep,

Just saw this thing also and after doing some searching, this update is another one that's going get hidden!

What's with these updates lately, of which I've hidden the last 5, or so, counting that Skype update, of which I have absolutely no use for?

A couple of the searches I saw had people getting high cpu usage and windows wanting to reapir itself after having been in sleep mode.
