chrisj1968
This was originally a Windows 8.1 laptop, I updated it to Windows 10 TP 9926-10041 until the Nvidia drivers made my games not work. no biggie I then went back and installed the original Windows 8.1 that came with this laptop. this morning, I managed to download the important drivers, wired netword adapter, wifi adapter and Ndivia Geforce 770M driver. after all installed flawlessly and without any hitch, I installed my conexant HD drivers and the DTS driver and installed the 64 bit Windows 7. I'm happy. I'll probably download a Windows 10 RTM ISO for later use if I decide to go that route. I miss my desktop on 7. I like each OS for different reasons but they are ALL based upon me being a gamer. I'm purchasing old games from Ghost Recon (2001), Rainbow 6 3 gold (with Athena sword) GRAW and GRAW2. Peace. chrisj1968

chrisj1968
I don't get this topic... I installed windows 7 and all the drivers. this laptop was originally when purchased was an 8.1 laptop. I'm playing old games from corca 2001- 2008/9. this includes black hawk down and the sabre expansion, the joint ops and expansion, rainbow6 3 gold and Ghost Recon 2003 gold. these old games weren't playing nicely with windows 8.1 I think OP is saying that he prefers Win 7 over 8.x or 10 for gaming. Yes! I love 10 a lot but I might by a new windows 10 specific system for gaming with newer games and keep this windows 7 for nostalgia gaming
notuptome2004
ok firstly you can go back to windows 8.1 easy from windows 10 as it has an options under update and recover in the settings met back to your previous version of windows keeping everything as it was before ya went to windows 10 Insider Preview . anyways also windows 8.1 should work fine with all your old games i know they have for me without issues and if you have one you can simple right click it and choose to run it in compatabilty mode and choose windows 7 or lower OS

All too many folks that throw brickbats at 8 (or 10) that don't work in enterprises just throw them without explaining WHY they are throwing them. The reticence of enterprise users I get - line-of-business applications are typically the LAST applications to get upgraded - if an upgrade happens there at all. The folks that have personal-preference (including comfort issues) I get to a lesser degree - comfort with the UI/UX is a big factor - a lot bigger than it used to be. Complacency, however, I simply don't understand, because it reminds me all too much of Canute and his broom. (In other words, "Wake the heck up - the broom didn't work! How many folks DROWNED because you relied on it?") Touch is showing up everywhere - in AND out of computing; trying to restrict it to niches hasn't worked. That means that those of us that aren't used to dealing with it on a daily basis (that includes me, by the way) are going to have to deal with it - our ability to hide from it is going away. None of us are Cleopatra - Queen of De-Nial; thinking that we're something that we aren't is going to cause us (as individuals AND as an industry) nothing but agony. I REFUSE to endure unnecessary agony - for a nonsensical reason.
The Evil Overlord
This is one of the reasons I stayed with 7, not all of my old games work, but none of the older games I have worked on my preview of 8.1 or 10 I guess if needs must, I could always build a windows xp rig for all of my old games, but the ones I cannot play, I didn't miss anyways, the 2 complaints I would have right now is my old command and conquer the first decade has stopped working, and I'm looking for a fix for that, the other, the videos in warcraft 3 no longer work, but I used to skip them anyway so no big loss
Raa
these old games weren't playing nicely with windows 8.1 Can you elaborate a bit more on this? I haven't (and won't be) moving to Windows 8.x, but I am almost certain to go Win 10 at launch. And I'm an all-round gamer so I'd like to know what I'm facing before making the jump. NEVER85
8.1 has handled everything I've thrown at it, ranging from games made in 2000 to today. In most cases, they performed better than they did under 7, but most things do anyway. Ian W 1 Share
Noir Angel
Only here could something like this create controversy. Though all of the games I play work on Windows 8.1, I personally have no argument against people using an older OS if they use software that relies on it. Instead of giving people boring lectures about complacency and the wonders of touch the best thing we can do is to help them The Evil Overlord and link6155 2 Share

chrisj1968
I wasn't trying to create controversy and sorry IF I gave that impression. I have managed to download service pack 1 and I plan to keep windows 7 even after 10 releases. I also missed the media center app as well. (that's just me) I'm in no way hating on windows 8.1 or 10 for that matter. They will probably be great for current and newer games. But for me, also kind of out of nostalgia, I like blackhawk down circa 2004, ghostrecon circa 2001 and the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter circa 2006-2008/9. GRAW 2 runs on windows 8.1 or 10 without a hitch. but my older favorites work fabulous on Windows 7. If I can make a suggestion, I'm coming from straight up common sense here, why not keep systems within the Vista/7 era and one for 8/8.1 or 10 for more modern games and future forward thinking advancements? the trick for me to get this x70 toshiba gaming laptop which was 8.1, it ran ten until the Nvidia driver issue and I reverted to 8.1 again. here's a trick to getting your PC back to windows 7. I simply opened up my device manager and opened up the main section, dealing with the internet adpaters, wired and wifi both, and the graphics. and I downlaoded all the important drivers first for internet and graphics card But I'll buy a new PC later when 10 releases to be forward thinking. you might just wonder why I don't have a multiboot system but, I like clean systems that are straight one OS. But this turned into a happy ending. I have downloaded SP1 and other needed updates as possible.
