So last night I used tap to pay for the first time in our Local grocery store using my LG G3. I told my friend who worked there I wish I could just tap my phone and try tap to pay. She said "You know I think it supports it, and sure enough on the top of the credit card machine there was a spot for it."

I told her I'm going to have to come back and buy a powerball ticket and try it out. She thought I meant later, but no I meant as soon as I put the groceries in my car.

It was really quite sweet. Opened Google wallet, entered my 4 digit pin, held my phone up to it and BLIP! The machine on the counter then asked me if the amount was ok and I tapped yes. Which is nice because if I were to have actually swiped my card it would have asked ..

Debit or Credit?

Do you know your pin?

Do you want Cash Back?

Amount of ______ correct?

Now It just asked if the amount was ok.

I was wondering how it would show up on my credit card statement or with my bank had I used my debit card, so when I import my bank statement I could still know where I the purchase was made so I could put it under the correct vendor.

So I checked my credit card statement today and the MCC description showed up as "Grocery Stores Supermarkets" and the Merchant Name showed up as GOOGNFC*FAREWAY.

So that was neat.

Below is a video on how it works for those who have never seen it before. It won't embed because I posted a link which goes to a certain spot in the video.

It appears Fareways competitor in town has gone the way of MXC, not locally (they don't even have tap to pay here yet) but upon researching it they have disabled tap to pay in their locations that offered it.

MXC is the QR code based payment system that Best Buy and Walmart have decided to use which requires a special app and apparently your Social security number just to sign up to use the app to make it's you. Can't confirm, that's just what I've heard.

Best Buy will be accepting Apple Pay in stores this fall and for in-app purchases quite soon.  MXC will be dead on arrival...if it arrives at all.

MXC needs to fail HARD! It's a horrible idea.

I've had a device capable of making NFC payments since I got my Galaxy Nexus in 2011, however have never been able to try it. Google has never allowed Google Wallet to be used outside the US, which is a shame as loads of places take NFC payments over here.

Apparently Google Wallet is finally coming to the UK now, it's a shame it took Apple to make a massive deal about Apple Pay, years later, before Google decided to show any interest in expanding the availability of Google Wallet.

The wife and I use it almost everyday on the iPhone 6; very convenient. Only hiccups are the employees who don't understand how it works sometimes.
