What happened to Facebook?!

Recommended Posts

Hello!

It's weird. Today for some reason cannot open Facebook. I mean only Facebook. All other pages are OK, my connection is OK but Facebook at first is hard to open or when it's open looks like this:

This happens with every browser sometimes a bit different but cannot open Facebook like usually.

I tried for 3 hours to figure out what happened. I uninstalled last updates, I tried to rename hosts file, changet IP, restarted modem, disabled ad blocker, disabled antivirus, firewall etc etc. nothing helped. AND then I reinstalled fresh Windows and whoa again Facebook not working and everything else is working.

Just for infor Instagram also not working but I don't use it. The point is every site I visit is OK without problems except Facebook and maybe some other sites I don't know and I don't use. Twitter which I don't use either also is OK.

What you think, do you have any ide, what is this, what happened, did any of you had something similar?

I'm in PC with Windows Server 2003.

Sorry for my english.

Thank you!

Woah, that seems an extreme step for one or two sites...

I just went to Facebook and I don't have any issues. That said, I have had an odd thing with the app on my phone where it isn't loading photos anymore (well, it's intermittent.)

Since you've taken the step of reinstalling Windows we can rule out it being an issue with your OS and browser. Have you reset your router? Perhaps it's a problem with your ISP?

EDIT: Also, this has only occurred today? It was working fine before today? If it were me I would wait and check again tomorrow.

Ive seen the same issue with a couple of other pages i visit where they do not fully load one of them was the bbc.co.uk site. it does not happen now but seems to be ISP related, the issues did not happen when using a VPN.

You cannot be surpised I reinstalled Windows for Facebook, don't be cruel, I use it every day to play Poker, I thought something very bad happened to system so i reinstalled it.

I was very sure it will be OK after reinstall. Contacting my ISP is useless they almost never answer.

I forgot to say, I used VPN and Facebook was loaded without problem. But then I got message I was banned from ZYnga Poker, but lucky when I tried with transparent proxy it was OK.

Yeah, it's ISP issue but it's really weird issue.

EDIT; Oh well, that's embarrasing and really really funny. I called ISP and they told me it's known issue, many users complained about this and they are working to fix it. titter.gif

And now I have work to install all my programs and they are a lot. I'd never imagine it's ISP problem. How they blocked only FB and Instagram. titter.gif

Now please delete this thread or mark it as SOLVED. 8i38cukz7p4u.gif

Oh no, I think you misunderstand. I wasn't meaning to come across as cruel. I was just surprised as it wouldn't be a normal troubleshooting option given the information that you have provided. Especially considering that the issue only started today, and other websites are working perfectly fine. As I said, I would have just waited for a day or two to see if it was an issue with my ISP rather than reinstalling the OS.

Format and Reload your OS, That seems to be the thing to do for this issue

Really? Re-installing Windows just because Facebook doesn't load and almost everything else does? I've heard of desperation but that totally cuts the cake! :)

Sorry you had to go though all that stuff but glad it was really such a simple thing as your ISP! :)

As I said, I tried many things to fix it, I'd never think or imagine it's ISP problem. All the time I thought it's my or PC's fault. Always I fix problems in my PC so this time i thought I had no more options to try. Also, I forgot to mention the real reason why I reinstalled Windows was because in meantime trying to fix Facebook somehow I broke my internet connection and restarting modem (I don't have router I'm old school user with cables ahahha) or fixing Winsocket didn't work so as last option was reinstall to fix 2 problems, Internet and Facebook. Anyway glad it's over now athrough I lost hours trying to fix and also now must install many programs. But, I'm free today so... have fun and thanks for the replies. ;)

hahahaha a Fresh Windows Install for Facebook, Ctrl + F5 would have probably fixed it. Either that or re install the browser. What is the rationale behind the OPERATING SYSTEM that trumps Facebook. *sigh*

Actually I highly recommend this course of action.  The more people stay hooked on FB and play these games, the better my FB stock does and I can retire at a younger age.

T3X4S, I have my work and I'm IT addicted, but not the point what I do in my computer, I use Facebook only for Poker. Otherwise PC I use for everything else. I had problem, I thought it's me or my PC, I asked for help and now you have some sarcastic question? Not good. You better watch your business and do something smarter. :p

I said many times I could not imagine it's ISP fault because I never had similar problems with ISP, They never blocked or broke any site so I thought reinstall is solution since I had no more ideas left. :)

I've never had an issue with my water supplier, they've never turned it off before.

One day I had no water.

I figured knocking my house down and rebuilding it was the solution.

Turns out there was an emergency in a new building very close.  This lasted for about 3 hours.

Wow, some sarcastic experts here. :D
Your comparison is totally wrong.

ISP never blocked any site or never broke like FB case. So I was 99.99% it's my fault or PC updates or whatever.

Anyway, thanks very much Neowinian Senior who mentioned my ISP so then I called them after that. Other sarcastic comments I will ignore now.

Bye bye! :)

^ hehehehe

Nice analogy!  Normally when you get weird pages like that is could be as simple as the css file didn't load.  Pages like fb are normally all served off cdn's - could of been a problem with the ip you were going too for the css or images, etc. most of them our served up off different fqdn even completely different servers, etc..  Could of been a problem with dns.. Lots of things could cause that problem - if you thought it was a problem with your OS.. How about just booting a live CD.. Or checking with another device in the house?  Laptop, phone, etc.

As an aside, OP: Why are you running Windows Server 2003 of all things as your client operating system?

Ah so by that logic, you HAVE broken access to Facebook before, and caused this issue yourself?

I think everyone's point here is you kinda went a little extreme for your issue.

The things that come to mind when I saw it loading like it was were things like, delete internet cache, try another browser - maybe re install browser. If you don't mention them, we can only assume you didn't do it. However If all of the above failed, I'd go with something like Budman suggested.

In the world of IT, you need to start smaller when troubleshooting and think simpler. As you've pointed out yourself, you now need to re-install and configure any applications because of the action you took, if you had of started with smaller steps or come here sooner, that would have all been avoided.

I think you would have gotten a better reaction had you came in here and said I've done nothing, tell me what to do.

Orlando -  You must really really like that poker game....  not much else to do in Kosovo, huh ?

Oh there's plenty of things to do here! This guy obviously went through a lot of unnecessary hassle for a stupid facebook poker game but that is not a reason to get all judgmental about Kosova.
