Notes

Software numbers are U.S. retail sales only (doesn't include downloads).  The platforms in parenthesis are from most sales to least.  So Mortal Kombat X  sold better on PS4 than Xbox One for example.

Bundles count only toward hardware.

Software
1. Mortal Kombat X (PS4, Xbox One)
2. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, PC, 360, PS3)
3. Battlefield: Hardline (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
4. MLB 15: The Show (PS4, PS3)
5. Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4)
6. NBA 2K15 (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
7. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
8. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3)
9. Super Smash Bros. (3DS, Wii U)
10. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (PS4, Xbox One)

Hardware

Microsoft:

As the best-selling console in the U.S. in April, fans set record April sales and engagement for Xbox One last month,
Xbox One console sales in the U.S. increased 63 percent in April 2015 compared to April 2014 and Xbox Live comparisons showed the number of active global users [Xbox One and Xbox 360] grew 24 percent. We are grateful to our fans for their passion and support and are looking forward to sharing more on the best game lineup in Xbox history at E3.

Sony:

We would like to thank fans around the world for their continued support of the PS4,

According to NPD, PlayStation continues to lead software sales for April 2015 and PS4 remains the cumulative sales leader in the US. We are looking forward to an amazing E3.

According to GAF the sales were 187k and 174k (XB1 and PS4 respectively).

Not much of a difference, but I'm surprised that MS won, considering the release of Bloodborne.

MS is up 63% and Sony was down 13%. For 2015 MS is up 3 out of 4 months and Sony is down 3 out of 4 months. Sony had 3 AAA exclusives and MS had 0.

Guess most of the Souls fans picked up a PS4 around when Bloodborne was announced. Its fine fine though, over 1 million sales.

Sub 200k suggests pre-E3 slowdown. MS need to beat Sony by in their homeland by a lot more than 13k units to make a dent. Europe will claw that back in a few days.

Yeah, Bloodborne did fine, no arguing there. Just a bit surprised, that it was april that MS won, since they had next to no releases there.

And also agreed about Europe. Traditionally Sony-territory. Gonna be exciting to see what MS/Sony has in store for us at E3.

Not surprised at all by this. I thought MS knocked another $50 off the price of the One, and also offered a discount on a bunch of bundles along with offering a substantial trade in value for older systems toward the One, starting at end of March beginning of April.

I believe a lot of people who were on the fence about when to pick up the One decided to do so because of these deals, so their plan apparently paid off.

Tbh with Sony's massive lead on hardware sales, they are probably going to dip sooner or later. However its only a small margin so they are still selling pretty damn well.

Well.. I mean it's bound to happen right? Only so many people buy consoles.. and for every console that Sony has sold their market gets smaller.. they still have a commanding lead in terms of total sales.

So Sonys best exclusive of the year already dropped off the map? Interesting.

Minecraft must be making Microsoft some bank, is there any information the last time it wasn't in the top 10 for the month in the last few years?

Microsoft's exclusives drop off right away as well.

Despite the hype around exclusives in the press they just don't sell as well as multi-platform titles. (obviously a smaller customer base)

Nintendo exclusives of all things are the best at sticking around (especially 3DS titles since last numbers I saw the 3DS had a larger install base then all three current gen consoles combined)

MLB 15 did manage to stick around for another month though.

Keyword" best exclusive of the year" All the exlusive that looked intresting got canncelled (PT) or pushed back to 2016(that where announced). MS has it's biggest exlusive and  one of the biggest system seller  coming this fall.

So?

If MS outsell Sony again next month, or for the rest of this year - who here gains anything? I know I sure as hell don't. I also know that I don't give a damn. I made my choice on the hardware side, I went with the machine that, overall, has the most power, has the company that tends to back smaller, more crazy titles, and the machine I preferred.

That's all that matters to me. It's all that should matter to everybody unless of course they have shares in said company.

I will never understand why people get so carried away in sales figures. Neither MS or Sony are going to go bump (gaming divisions), they both sell well.

Desperation because Sony has been doing severely bad since the start of the century and some convince themselves that the PS4 will correct that.

Also http://en.wikipedia....rationalization, which is essentially considered as a mental disorder.

More parity in sales numbers equals greater competition, which also benefits you.

My arse does it. The gaming industry is broken regardless of sales. Nothing has benefited any of us. Dlc, day one patches, etc etc
