9 dead in Waco, Texas - Rival bikers shoot it out

Nine people were killed Sunday in a shooting among rival bikers in Waco, Texas, CNN affiliates KXXV and KXTX reported.

 

"Multiple injuries to include multiple fatalities," the Waco Police Department said in a post on Facebook. "Officers were on scene when shooting started. No officers have been injured."

 

Thought we left this kind of stuff back in the 1800s.  Hopefully no innocent bystander was injured.

And here I thought only Black and Hispanic gangs did this sort of thing...some people on Neowin fooled me. ;-) Anyhow, 9 dead means they were really going at it with not a care for innocent people.

More than 160 people were arrested after a deadly biker brawl in Texas and will be charged with engaging in organized crime, police said Monday.

 

Twin Peaks, the sports bar where the fighting erupted on Sunday, will be shut down by authorities for seven days, Waco police Sgt. Patrick Swanton told reporters.

 

Swanton said that 165 to 175 bikers were being booked into the county jail. Earlier, he gave a figure of 192. He said the charges could be upgraded, up to capital murder.

 

Nine people were killed and 18 injured in the brawl. Fighting spilled out of the restaurant and escalated from fists to chains, clubs, knives and gunfire. Five biker gangs were involved, and the bikers exchanged fire with police.

Swanton said it was still not clear how many people had been shot by police and how many by bikers.

issue is, there were cops outside the restaurant, news reports said during the meeting. so the cops waited for something bad to go down rather than be proactive. 5 gangs in one location to hash out turf issues.. what could possibly go wrong!?!

 

The cops screwed up. so it proves AGAIN, criminals DO NOT obey gun laws. gun laws are only designed to disarm the law abiding citizens.. look at chicago, the murder capital of the US and how wonderfully their gun control laws work.. criminals still got the guns and innocents die...

And about 170 arrested, many of which will be charged not only with the fights and shootings but under organised crime laws.

As to the cops acting proactively, they did as much as they legally could. The meeting of the gangs over territories and recruitment was legal, being in a private business and an act of free assembly, and then they tried to get the proprietor to cancel it but he wouldn't. Given those all they could do was stand by and hope, then react if the fur flew which it did.

I have never seen anyone make an argument for stronger gun laws based on the assumption that "criminals" would abide by them.
