Major issue with my handset

Recommended Posts

So my nice ~3 month old Samsung Galaxy Avant has been having some serious issues, namely freezing to the point I have to pull the battery, apps not working, etc. I took the phone to the repair center today and all they wanted to do to reset the phone to factory default and tell me that if the problems persist to bring it back in, however they are not willing to swap the handset out unless they are able to duplicate the problem. I am really at a lose of what to do about this issue. My roommate suggested that I take the phone to the other repair/corparate store in this area and see what they are willing to do, but I am concered that I will make the trip for them to say they the same thing since they document everything on the account. Should I just say f-it and call Samsung directly, or hold out on the chance that someone will swap the handset out.

keep taking it back, (if possible, try to remember whichever sequence can trigger the freeze)

They're probably not going to escalate until you've been back 2 or 3 times, and if you can make it freeze in store, they'll have to do something to repair/replace, it is still under warranty.

This is a perfectly reasonable way of fault finding. Any business worth its salt will do a full reset first.

I presume *you* haven't tried a reset yet?

Do a full factory reset. I had similar issues with my Samsung S3 once and after the reset it went back to normal. The issue seem to be software related. You have nothing to loose.

Just keep track of the conversation you had with the repair center just in case it happen again.

Yes I have done at least 2 factory resets, and each time the results are the same.

does it stay frozen when it freezes or does it unlock after some time? if it stays frozen then take it to them while it's frozen.

It stays frozen untill the battery is pullled. I had thought about that, however they will have to reproduce the issue, and I have yet to figure out what exactly is causing the freezing. I am simply frustrated that the company is so unwilling to work with me on this, there first excuse was that it was rooted, therefore they could not work on it, however the thing that I find oddest is that when it was rooted it seemed to work better.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've done factory reset, issue shows up still after. Yes the phone is under warranty still, but short of dealing with Samsung, my carrier will not replace it without being able to reproduce the problem.

Let it lock up and take it to  your carrier while it's not working and let them figure out how to fix it.  When they can't; ask for a replacement.

When you do a factory reset do you reinstall all the apps you had installed previously?  Have you tried to do a factory reset and not reinstall all apps to rule out an app causing the problem?

I had considered this, however, there response will be the same, if they can not duplicate the issue, they will refuse to replace it. I know how to make it freeze that's not an issue at all, however in the unlikely event that I do manage to duplicate it and take to the store, what's to say they won't simply reset it and send me on my way? The issue seems to stem from trying to stream music both on WiFi and 4g lte, I have tried it with Spotify and that seems to be where most of the issue comes from, but last night I was streaming using Musecast (allows me to stream my collection from the PC to the phone) and I manged to get one song in before it locked up and I was forced to pull the battery. I have been able to use Musecast before and listen to multiple songs, so I know it's not the app or the PC, it's something on the handset.
