Adult FriendFinder experiences data breach exposing 3.5 million users

Over the past several years, data privacy has become a growing concern. Last year, when multiple retail chains experienced heavy data breaches, the topic of data privacy was finally presented front and center to those that never experienced or heard of the issue. This week, a popular adult website, Adult FriendFinder, has been exposed as having had a data breach.

For those unfamiliar, Adult FriendFinder is a social website for adults. The website caters to those looking for casual and sexual encounters. According to CNN, although the data breach was initially reported by Tek Security last month, Adult FriendFinder wasn't directly named until the story was reported by Channel 4 this week. The data breach has resulted in 3.5 million email addresses, usernames, passwords, birthdays, zip codes and users sexual preferences being exposed. Luckily, credit card information and financial details appear to remain safe. Naturally, the exposed information could be damaging and have dramatic and life altering consequences for some.

Much like with any data breach incident, it's recommended to change any and all passwords immediately and keep a watchful eye for any suspicious activity.
