Slow shutdown & Startup, Nvidia to blame?

Recommended Posts

Okie, after reading through the forums on neowin and tweakxp.com ive picked up tidbits here and there about reasons for slow startups and shutdowns, i remember hearing about the possibility that Nvidia's detenator drivers could be to blame. My computer is running :

Athlon Xp 1600+

Biostar Mobo w/ SDRAM 256

Geforce 2 MX

Western Dig 40GB 7200 RPM HD

Kingston Ethernet card for my Cable modem

Full install of XP pro on NTFS

And it seems to take well over 30 seconds to startup, and even longer to shutdown, and i thought XP prided itself on a faster startup? Win ME started up a good 20 seconds faster than this.

Now i recently put together a computer for my dad and its running :

Pentium 3 500mhz

ATI Rage 128 vid

Quantum Fireball 10GB hd

Also full insteal of Xp pro on NTFS

And my dads comp shoots right into xp and shuts down lightining fast?!? Takes like 10 seconds for each. How is this possible when im running a faster proc with a faster HD?? So obviously its got to be in the drivers for my devices. It could be the Nvidia drivers, but ive also heard around that XP doesnt handle cable modems very well either, so thats another possibility. Does anyone have the same problem? or have a solution to this? I welcome all input :lick:

I see you are new here...

This problem is known for the shut down and there is a way to speed it up. Go into administrative tools -> services -> nvidia driver help -> disable it or make it manual.

This was actually discussed months ago.
