You've got to remember that not everyone is technology literate. Those who are not so good with technology, like most of us, find it difficult to judge the tone of messages etc. So they may seem dumb to us, but not to them. The fact that anyone can put stuff out there, so the source any content should be checked before accepting it doesn't occur to many.
