Can you recommend me a 1080p Gsync monitor

Recommended Posts

Well it is my birthday soon and wife wanted to buy me a watch. So I asked for a monitor instead (already have some old watch) cool1.gif

Rest of my rig:

3570 @ 4.4
MSI 770 Lightning
8 GB RAM

I thought a long time and with two kids and planning another one money will be tight down the line so less and less money for upgrades. That's why I'm thinking 1080p monitor and not 1440p as I won't be able to keep up with GPU requirements that easy. And Gsync will likely help with lower framerates and older hardware.

I'm sporting 2 monitors right now:
Samsung Syncmaster p2350

and some el cheapo LG with 1050p and this one would go away.

Also if there is anything nice coming out soon I can wait :)
Thank you for your time!

I have one it's fantastic. Not sure if I'm going to get a second or wait for 30+ " 1440p or 1600p G-sync. But for 1080p, 144Mhz, & Gsync, it has been great and I highly recommend it. USB 3.0 ports and charging port as well.

How can it be fantastic since it's a TN panel?

I now own an IPS screen and i'll never ever own a TN panel again.

+1 TN are terrible quality compared to IPS. The only thing they are good for are extremely fast refresh rates.

Also, I wouldn't go with a 1080p monitor nowadays.

The Acer is TN, *but* it is an 8-bit TN. Looks pretty good, I have one I'm looking at now. The only niggling issue is a little color shift, if you're lazy like me and sit back in your chair..

Even this it's overrated.

The fast response time of TN is gray to gray. You can find 5ms IPS panel these days and 5ms is enough.

Is the viewing angle better?

At 27 inch the bad viewing angle of TN gonna be a problem. Colors will be different in the corners than in the center of the screen if he is standing close to it. I had one for about a week (before buying my IPS panel) and it was unbearable in some games specially when it was the night in a game (like in Elder Scrolls).

Anyway maybe TN improved a lot in the last 2 years but i would definitively look at the options before buying one. IPS DEL are a lot cheaper these days and the difference in quality with a TN is big.

It also looks like you can't get an ips display and a g-sync enabled monitor in one. At least not yet.

:(

Well then i suppose the acer one is a good option.

I've never used anything else besides 1080p and am kinda afraid of performance hit at 1440p

I know people argue that. I'm going from IPS to this, and there's no difference, I actually like the contrast and colors better. I suppose if you're a calibrating designers you might notice something, but for me, the only difference is no glow in the corners.

depends, for me, anything under 30" over 1080p won't work for my day to day work. Don't like the dpi scaling. I want the res, but definitely with a larger screen than 27". I was at 34 but took a step back until they go gsync and higher than 60hz.

Again, I think for the overwhelming majority these are anectodal truths (is there such a thing?). I've personally never had a bad viewing angle because I'm never looking at it over someone's shoulder. I'm always in front of it. I'm sitting close to it all day and even when I play games and I have uniform color from corner to corner. These things may have been more of an issue with previous generations but it's just a non-factor. At least in my experience and with this monitor.

If you're a designer who calibrates, I understand. If you're a gamer or general computer user, I say stop reading about these technical truths, and just look at it. While I have never experienced these things or they have never become apparent to me based on how I compute, every IPS monitor I've had has noticeable and irritating glow and questionable black levels. But I still enjoyed them, except for the ones the glow was horribly bad.
