Known issues in the latest Windows 10 preview, build 10130

The latest Windows 10 Insider Preview, build 10130, is now available for those testing the OS who are enrolled in the Fast ring for new build deployments. Microsoft has made it clear that this build - and future ones - will focus less on delivering major new features to the operating system, and more on adding polish and stability ahead of its release this summer.

As our recent discussion on the last preview build, 10122 - which was released just nine days ago - revealed, polish and stability are two areas that could certainly use some attention in the OS.

But since this remains pre-release software, build 10130 inevitably includes various known issues that Microsoft has documented:

  • Mail app may crash due to a memory error, and may not synch mail when in the background. We plan to service this issue with an update via Windows Update.
  • In some cases, flyouts from the Taskbar (including Start, Cortana, Network, Battery, and Action Center) fail to fly out. This is a transient issue, and after retrying a few times it will succeed. We are also working to service this issue with an update.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity may fail at times due to a known issue. A system reboot is required to recover from this state.

Of course, it's likely that build 10130 includes many other bugs and issues that haven't yet been documented - after all, the whole purpose of the preview program is to help Microsoft find those bugs and squash them before the final OS build is compiled and released to manufacturers in the next couple of months.
