kalel83
I was going to buy a Surface 3 but due to the lies of the sales reps at both Best Buy and at the Microsoft Store I ended up at a Apple store. I spend $1400 on a product that I now realize was also sold to me under a lie. If I return the apple product there is no other competitor to go to, at all. I have never been this angry over purchases and sales people before. They say anything to get you to pay for it, then down the line when you realize they lied, they literally admit it but simply do not care. I want a company I can give my money to that I know even if they charge me more money, won't lie to me to get a sale. What ever happened about companies wanting brand loyalty among-st consumers? How does lying to them to get quick sales make that any different.
Brandon
Why would you listen solely to minimum wage floor sales people on a large purchase like that? Do your own research online. A good salesman's job is to get you to purchase the product. Lie, no, but sell the strengths and minimize the weaknesses, yes. sc302 Veteran Posted June 2, 2015 Veteran Share Posted June 2, 2015 Perhaps switching to online would better suit you. I don't know how you were lied to in either case, but doing your own research might be best...the only one that would lie to you would be you. The Evil Overlord
^ What they said I don't understand why you can't return the Apple product, all retailers have to give you a cool off period for new products so long as they're undamaged. Android and Windows products are reasonably well built, all 3 do their intended jobs well, if you already have an apple infrastructure, (iMac or iPhone with an iTunes account, then stay with the new apple device <I'm assuming it was an iPad>) If not, any of the rival devices can sync using a cloud based service. But all 3 of them do have their weaknesses also, it's the nature of the beast, in cases like this, I always say go with whatever you're most comfortable with. (example, I'm ALWAYS getting the 'Intel is better than AMD' speech, but in the real world, it's my money and my choice)

CrossCheck
I always do research online for products i want to buy, especially big purchases. Why commission based sales person? They are more likely to lie than an hourly employee. Have you ever been to a car dealership?
Charisma Veteran Posted June 2, 2015 Veteran Share Posted June 2, 2015 I didn't realise commission-based sales wasn't a thing anymore. It still is here in Aus. Definitely do your own research, but if you want a Surface 3 you should get one, as there really isn't anything like it quite like it out there. A salesperson in a store is not a representation of the entire company or its products.
kalel83
I ended up with a XPS 13. The pen is nice but i want to use it to study non art things. It is more about which company I want to have my money. In the end there are several different products that would fill my need. Dell with their zero presence on a sales floor near me got them to win, as no sales persons seems clearly better then any at all as for the apple thing, i was told an availability of the product i paid for within a week. was then told 2 weeks and if i wanted to pay additional money i might get a rush. then it was offered for them to waive the shipping rush but I was already too upset by then. binaryzero
It's your fault for listening to a sales rep - rule #1 never listen to sales reps. They're complete dumbass' with no knowledge at all except how to earn a commission off a sale they do. Do your research first, then tell the sales rep what you want, rather than what they want. The worst part of the Apple experience IS the Apple Stores - they're horrible, poorly managed, and the "geniuses" are complete numb skulls. I avoid these at all costs. I'll flog any genius any day, they'll never touch my devices.
astropheed Veteran Posted June 2, 2015 Veteran Share Posted June 2, 2015 I hate commission based salesman. At first it's all nice and then multiples of them surround you (they sell in packs), and before long you just want to shout, "Stop sucking up to me!". I prefer a salesmen who gets paid decently well enough to care about their job and help me when I ask for it. Although, in most cases I research everything, I intend to purchase (of significant value), online and know exactly what I want before I even enter the store. However, I do my online research but will still ask questions before buying. This way you know if they will tell the truth and then you can go further. astropheed 1 Share
kalel83
I used to do commission based sales. To me, it means you don't lie through your freaking teeth because you are gonna make sure the sale goes through. Lying to people causes a loss of report. Where as the sales people now, they don't have any motivated to be more then completely useless. They don't get a better pay check by telling me the truth. Also, I don't understand why so many people are saying "do your own research". where is it implied that I didn't? Only issue i was speaking of was who gets my money at the end. sc302 Veteran Posted June 2, 2015 Veteran Share Posted June 2, 2015 If you did your own research then why would you listen to any salesmen? What is the point if you are well educated in the product you are purchasing? If you did your own research you should be walking in the store and telling them exactly what product you want and not giving them the option to sell you on something more or less because that is not what you want. You stated you don't do your own research or enough of it by stating you listened to anything the sales people said. What comes out of their mouth other than the final price after tax is irrelevant. If you researched, were told in-store, and it still didn't do what you thought it'd do then I'm not so certain that the failing is with the equipment. Raa
Then don't buy a product from a salesperson, buy one from an engineer or technical person. (Or with their assistance) One is there to make money, the other is there to support the product.

NightScreams
I'm confused. OP longs for the days of commission salesmen? They were far worse than non commission salesmen. The problem here is going to Best Buy where the college kids that work there are just dumb. Just ask them questions you already know and it's quite comical the answers you can get. jakem1
It's not that the staff are necessarily dumb. They're not provided with any training, they're paid peanuts and they're under pressure to make sales to keep their miserable jobs. Why should they care about their jobs when management don't care about them? f0rk_b0mb, Charisma and Dick Montage 3 Share
