First time buying a PS4 and ...

Recommended Posts

So I decided to buy my first Sony Playstation 4 sold and ship by Amazon :D

My PS4 arrived today, hook it up to my TV and I was met with a blue pulsing light

Tested on 3 TV's and still got that dreaded blue pulsing light. Than I ask a friend to bring his PS4 over and his PS4 works on all 3 of my TV.

We tried booting my PS4 into safe mode by holding the power button for 8 second. It just powers on and in 8 second its just turn off.

So we can't even get into safe mode.

So its determined that my PS4 is DOA.

So my first experience with a Playstation 4 was not a good one

Amazon was kind enough to replace it and send me another one.

Though I'd share my PS4 experience with the neowin community.

Unfortunately these things happen, to my knowledge this generation of consoles so far have been pretty solid.

Hopefully your replacement will come soon and you can finally enjoy it

For that very reason I tend to buy from stores. I get the satisfaction of getting the product tested instore before I commit to purchase.

Happened to me.  I pre-ordered a PS4 the day after pre-orders opened.  Got it a week after release (Amazon shipped on release day, not a couple days before to ensure you got it for release day) had the PBLoD upon receiving.  Called up Sony and had a brand new PS4 in my hands 3 days later (and that's with me getting the return box from sony, returning the ps4, and then getting the new one).

The new PS4 I had gotten has been running solid for a year and a half now with 0 issues.  I think I had actually posted about it here back when I got it.

No stores in the US do this.  You take it home sealed, you break seal, you unbox, you plug in, you test/verify functionality...if it doesn't work you return to the store for replacement or refund.  There is no prior testing before taking it home the first time or the second time.

I've not heard of that in the UK either - you just buy it and take it home sealed. The advantage of a physical retailer is that you can go back there and replace it easily, whereas online purchases take longer.

I've never seen a place in Australia do that either.

I've bought stuff in B&M stores before that were DOA. For the return, I asked the employee if I could hook the replacement up in store first. They didn't have a problem with it.
